neil5208
Just completed this one for the B17 STGB, Revells B17F boxing come with the parts for an "E" model in the box. The kit itself is showing the moulds age, lots of flash to clean up and lots of filler along the fuselage seam but lots of detail inside. That said Revells instruction about interior colours are wrong in a lot of places but I didn't find out until after the fuselage was built. If I do another B17 I would correct the inaccuracies such as the floor in the rear missing, ammo storage box locations, missing air bottles, cockpit and bombardiers station. Tamiya acrylics and some oil paint on underside, kits decals for the stars and serial no made from 2 serial numbers (thanks to Shelliecool) Old Maid done with home made stencil. Build WIP is here. As usaual any comments welcome. FAAMAN
Nice paint 😎 Not sure what you mean by "showing the moulds age" as this from 2012, a version of the Revell "G" with "F" bits in kit with the still too tall top gun turret. It is most definitely not the 1962 released Revell H-201 kit. Also for future information B-17E's had a "blunt" framed nose and small cheek windows.
Farmerboy
Nice job, and an attractive paint scheme, that’s a good looking fort.
neil5208
That will teach me for believing online reviews, I was under the impression that it was from 2010.
Eric Mc
Nice rendition. However, I always though that the nose transparencies on the E model was framed?
neil5208
The available pictures for the Hawaiian based aircraft show a mix of framed and unframed noses, I came to the conclusion that the ball turrets where retro fitted replacing the earlier Mitchell type in theatre so possibly same with noses. FAAMAN
All the aircraft in this Boeing built production block 41-2393 - 41-2669 had framed noses throughout their career. B-17E's fitted with the Sperry remote underside turret and sighting blister were to the best of my info never refitted with the Sperry ball turret. The Remote underside turret is often referred to as a Bendix unit, this is incorrect and the turret is not to be confused with the B-25 underside turret as it is completely different to the one fitted to early Fortresses. The Sperry unit was superseded very early on the production line with the Sperry ball turret from the 113th airframe, B-17E's 41-2393 to 41-2504. As you can see your Fort 41-2409 is the 16th 'E'. Lockheed Vega built B-17E's apparently had the full plexiglass nose and Sperry ball turret from the start of production, this may be what threw you. Hope this helps 😉

neil5208
Thanks for the info, I was going off available photos of the aircraft in Hawaiian Air Depot camo some show tail number but most do not so it was best guess as to what aircraft had what fitted. kapam
Very nice build in a somewhat unusual camo scheme. I'm no expert on the differences between E's, F's and G's, so I would not dare to comment. But I find the old-school markings on yours convincing enough to this casual viewer. I do know that Academy issued an 'E' version a year or so ago, but I don't know what fellow hobbyists say about it.
