I would agree also. Furthermore, how many of these types mentioned do you see on display at model shows?

You're right. I took a 1/48 Lancaster to southern Expo many years ago …… an absolute wotsit to transport and then took up most of the display space. How not to impress club members

Then again with a Vulcan you cold put other models on the wings as a space saver...……………...:wicked:

I believe a Spitfire will easily fit under the wings of a vulcan

If there is a new 1/72 Airfix Vulcan by 2022, then the IPMS “big display” for SMW could be recreating the Black Buck refuelling plan, which would need 18 Victors and 5 Vulcans

(I know that’s way more than were on the mission, but it would let the display create a “timeline” view along the table, showing how each “bracket” worked...)

best,

M.

An impressive display for sure. I'm just cringing at the cost of all the models!

I built the Lindberg Victor and, although it is not very accurate, it is a definitely a good scale for an aircraft of its size.

Its a shame 1/96 didn't develop any traction as a scale (despite Frogs best efforts) as it's ideal for large aircraft and airliners. Big enough to look impressive but small enough to make display less of a headache.

Tamiya made a serious effort to condition people to 1/100, even producing  B-52D and B-52E/F kits in that scale. It fizzled out in the 70s, although you see re-pops of the B-52D occasionally, and some of the other 1/100 kits in the line. Last time was a few years ago from Tamiya, and some of the smaller fighter sized kits have shown up in other companies' boxes, too.

Also, they’re releasing their next Workbench simultaneously.

Judging by their current house style, it'll probably take until Telford 2020 to finish reading it...

I think that is an excellent point. 1/96 is a good "in between" scale as would be 1/100.

Heller also (and uniquely I think) had a brief flirtation with 1/125 which would certainly have been better than 1/144

A QE is an interesting thought, didn’t someone do a one-off on their behalf for presentation to the Captain of the ship?

Trevor, as Ratch says, I made that HMS Queen Elizabeth five years ago. I am now scratchbuilding another "one-off" model of 1/350 HMS Prince of Wales and it in the final stages of construction, currently decalling the flight deck. Just a case of tidying up some paintwork and putting it on it's proper base.

The Canberra has been kitted several times in 1/72:

FROG - PR.7 and B(I).8

Revell - B.2 and B-57B (these were actually 1:81 scale)

Airfix - B(I).6, B(I).8/12, PR.9, B-57B

Matchbox - PR.9

Italeri - B-57B/G

High Planes - B.2/20, B-57A, B.6, B(I).8/12, T.17 and RB-57D

S&M Models - B.2 and T.4

MikroMir/Amp - T.11 and T.17

Mach2 - WB-57F

True, but several of these kits are from short run manufacturers, that work with very different numbers in mind. The Vulcan was also reproduced by a few companies in vacuform before Airfix issued their own tool but since their production numbers are way smaller than the ones of "mainstream" companies they are of little interest in understanding the popularity of a subject with the wider modellers market

The announcement the brotherhood is waiting for:

The tooling quality of all coming products will decisively  be improved, regarding fit (not that big issue), surface structure (very big issue) and thickness of clear parts.

Formaplane and Rareplane.

...and entirely correct about informing the market.

Doyusha also has a fairly extensive lineup of 1/100 airliners, although I believe at least some of these originated with other manufacturers. Nitto did a 1/100 Boeing E-3 Sentry AWACS that gets good reviews for accuracy.

Well, I've finally got to the end of the 47 pages and it's been fascinating. Trying to be pragmatic, while adhering to the "One True Scale", I want Airfix to have some sure-fire money makers. Soooooo.

Dassault Mirage III - possibly tooled for both the "C" and "E"

F84F Thunderstreak

Both served with many air forces, so hopefully a broad market out there.

Spitfire VA retooled for cannon wings

Hurricane I retooled for metal wings

Canberra Mk(I)8 retooled for bomber canopy

Hopefully each one a cheap hit.

And finally, on moral grounds, a correctly shaped Fairey Battle (with  masks)

And, absolutely finally, a DH Hornet.

Wasn't there a plan to hang Gnats under the wings as escort fighters?

Absolutely amazing work.  I'd love one of these (not sure the missus would though) as well as a similar scale Ark, Vicky, Eagle or Hermes

Just a thought... Not that it's even remotely likely, but what about a Ju86? There's a surviving example (and another almost complete wreck found in the last week or so) and Airfix have done the somewhat comparable Whitley.

Italeri has a kit already. Ive got one sitting in the to do pile. My Brother in law gave me a collector's edition limited boxing for Christmas last year. Its earmarked for the small wars group build and a SCW scheme.
