Jase
This build kicks off my first build on this form. Its one of 5 ship builds I currently have on the go to which I will post diary for all of them. The kit is the rather loverly multimedia kit from Atlantic Models, not my first resin kit, That was the WEM 1:350 hood back in the late 1990s, but my first Atlantic Models Kit The kit comes with full or waterline Hull, I am going down the full hull version. the two halves of the hull click together with a reassuringly good click, there is virtually mo joint line visible, but still filler was applied Next task was to drill and mill out two holes to accept the base. I am using a wood base with brass belt rivets for the uprights. these are cheap to buy in packs of 20 from eBay and have the advantage of screw studs heads at each end, not needed for this model but very handy on my wooden ships and acrylic bases. the forward superstructure has been cleaned up and dry fitted, there is some gap filling to do at this point so have decided to fix in place before priming. The rear superstructure incorporates the hanger so needs to be built up and painted before fitting - the next job😎 Jase Edited January 5, 2019 by Jase

Chewbacca
Looking forward to following this as I have this kit awaiting completion to represent GLASGOW in 1997-99. Which ship are you planning to replicate and what period? As for Flickr, open the photo then click the "Share" button (the right pointing white arrow bottom right). In the op up window, select BB Code and then choose the size image you want to upload (which will depend on the size of photo you have uploaded to Flickr. I usually used 1024 wide). Copy that link and paste in the BM post. About half way along the first line of this URL you should see the text "[/img][/url][url". Delete everything after "[/img][/url]" (that then avoids a load of text being pulled across with the image) Hope that helps

Courageous
A good start with the resin offering looking smooth and detailed. I have a couple of '42s' in the 1/700 stash, so will see how you handle this. Stuart
PF Naughton
Hi, I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your build. I always liked the look of the Batch I and Batch II Type 42s. Pat
Jase
Work progresses with adding the lower hull parts, propeller shafts etc; all white metal parts that need some clean up and trimming to fit. once done I have laid down the anti-fouling red which is some old WEM paint I have. Once dry She was fitted to the now varnished stand. the stand will be given some protection so the build can continue without any risk to it. Before the upper hull can be painted the stern deck part needs attaching, and before that can happen some detailing needs adding to the rear deck in the form of a winch, ladder and railings. the position of the railings is critical to ensure the stern deck supports positions are not encroached on. to aid this I have used ZAP gel se I have some time to man over the railings wile test fitting the stern dec section. My camera seems to have picked up some touch up required on the hull, I must remember ti investigate that!! Jase
Benbow
Out of interest what size belt rivets do you use for your pedestals and do you cut the heads off?

Hi I have different sizes I use depending on the ship and the base. sometimes I remove the heads for the base but generally don't if I can avoid it. in this build I have not used the heads at all in the hull but used them in the base. you can get them very cheaply on Ebay Jase
Jase
Bit more progress on this... some test fitting is required of the stern deck section. the stern deck beneath it needs to be pointed and weathered prior to fitting it. some minor work is needed on the join prior to painting the decks lower hull and base have been masked off for protection and then the whole build so far has been airbrushed using Life Colour Light Compass ghost grey, which is the corresponding match to the Humbrol colour listed in the instructions. The decks have been brush painted, again with the corresponding Life Colour paint Grey RLM 75. currently two coats in will need a third. Jase
Ok on with the build. the major resin parts to be fitted are cleaned up next and checked for fit. it was at this point I decided to change my plans a little. The kit comes with two options for the ventilators the more common one and the later version used on just two ships, one of which is HMS Liverpool, the ship I planned to model. problem is I don't like the look of the late version which is just a box so I have changed the build to HMS Southampton. all the major resin parts gives you a feel for the complexity of the structure. I removed the main gun barrel and replaced with a brass aftermarket version purchased through Atlantic models. then everything was primed ready for paint. The boot line was then painted in, I used Tamiya semi gloss black for this job, I got a small amount of seep but nothing I cannot tidy up later. At this point I felt it made sense to get the deck and hull decals on before I start building up the structure with all the etched brass and whatnot. the kit suppled decals are great quality went don well. The exclusion circles around the armament are not included in the kit and were purchased seperatley again from Atlantic models. The main mast was the first item to be painted and fitted. This is because a small air bubble had broken and I wanted to fill it once fixed in place. the mast was painted once fitted. I have used Lifcolour satin black on the mast, three coats needed. the forward armament was also installed at this point. As you will see in the photo above the kit provides decals for the bridge windows, its a good solution. The domes have been given a first coat of Insignia white, they will need another. More soon.
