Revell 1:48 Bell UH-1 «Huey Hog»

Recommended Posts

Hello Britmodellers! 👋

My second build on our forum is finished today:

This old and well-known kit has a nice surface details, and the new Revell decals is great:

As usual, the Huey painted with a Gunze Sangyo acrylics with a Tamiya enamel washes.

I decided to use all the weapons from the kit, looks nice:

An intake cover is removable, to have access for an engine:

This time I masked exhaust area before the clear coat to preserve the matt finish:

The rotor and its mechanics looks very detailed:

The belly is not so detailed, but a stencil-busy:

The front view with a «Thumper»:

And this time I don’t forget about a position lights (!):

The tail:

During the sanding the roof was slightly distorted, but under the paint coats looks smooth:

I’m glad that I can preserve all the surface details, with this soft and thin plastic the fuselage looks very natural and in-scale:

The bad things happened, too:

After the door window was attached, I decided to use an alcohol to remove the fingerprints from the outside... Looks like the CA glue was not so ready, or I was so hurried.

The starboard side looks better:

The results is not so bad for me, and if I want to build a Huey again, surely I put my hands on this kit again!

Sorry for for a bit dark photos, there is not so much daylight today:

The finish makes it look like it was carved from a block of iron... Amazing.

Yes, I thought about a tank, too! Actually, I love this grain. Sometimes it masks some surface defects and always look very eye-friendly (as for me). Analog 😜

How do you say "Holy mackerel!" in Russian?

«Holy Skumbriya»? 🤔 No, just «okhrenet’»! I long laughed when I first time heard the «holy s#!t» or a better, «bloody hell»... The second phrase is so obvious when translated literally. Sorry if I misunderstood you, because the some language tricks is not so clear for me, yet.

Cheers! 🙂

Great looking Huey!

On the subject of your port door window, CA glue will cloud clear styrene, unless you're very, very careful.

In fact CA isn't suitable at all for clear parts – much better to use one of the water-based Gator Glues (also good for photo etch, since it doesn't cure instantly like CA). Or simply use white wood glue, which dries clear and can be cleaned up with water before drying.

Kind regards,

Joachim

Yes, I'm very careful, but an impatient sometimes...

I never use a CA glue before, even for a PE parts. And now I don't want to use it again! Thanks Joachim, I'll get the Tamiya's white glue soon, hope it helps...

Oh, I forgot about a Revell's Contacta Liquid Special that I have in my box. 🤨

Cheers! 🙃

Sorry was in a rush when i hit the like. Its some really good work here Nikolay. I built a couple of these in my teenage years in the 80’s. They never looked this good, now i want to do one again. 👍

Not to worry Nikolay, about the dings and dents on your B/C Mod UH-1.  They had them in real life.  So good job. The first things to get bent were the cooling vents.  And eventually someone would put a foot through the upper green window.  These aircraft were kept out doors, unless they were hangared for maintenance.  Here is my attempt at the same kit.

Looks excellent - very clean work with the windshield, this is the most tricky area of this kit! 👍
