Have a look at one of the many Flanker builds here on BM and you’ll see the colour I’m referring to. AW Hya. Thanks for the help, it looks like it’s both light blue and turquoise. Looking at the ref pics the floor that HB say is “light blue” looks to have a dark grey rubber mat type thing fitted. 🤣 21 hours ago, Scimitar said: Lots of photos in here too, including some shiny clean ones https://www.cybermodeler.com/aircraft/ka-27/ka-27_all.shtml My reference earlier to things getting easier meant that you started with quite a complex helicopter. Bugle07
I'm in, this should be fun! Always thought these things looked like someone squashed up a Lancaster, took of the wings and stuck two of the props on top. The Ruskicaster Wobblychopper? Lancasterovitch? Maybe it's just the fumes from the glue? Geoff 1
The Spadgent
Good evening everyone. Apologies for the lack of actual updates, we were in London last weekend. So not a lot of plastic, ( Great show if its your cup of Wizarding tea however. ) Then work started. So not a lot done during the week either. (Dang) I then had a mild disaster as I had bought some third part brackets for my Ikea shelf. I was re arranging the cabinet when ‘snap’ the plastic bracket bust and crushed my mossie.😫 panic set in as you can imagine so rescuing the bits I cleared the other planes out until this weekend. That was the cabinet with the extra shelves removed and a selection of the rescued kits. Including the now repaired Mosquito. I bought some new metal brackets from eBay and spent this morning cleaning glass and kits and fitting shelves. All back in order and dust free now. Phew. 🤗 So as you can see this weekend has been busy in a non gluing way too, but a visit to Croom and a National trust Secret RAF base piqued my interest and set me up for some afternoon of modelling. Here are some picks from Croom. Spitfire bits. And a Canberra cockpit. All those wires got me thinking. I’m taking realism with a pinch of salt and adding some detail here and there to the Helix. I started adding wires to all the equipment using lead thread. I’d seen an article in a magazine in the LMS and the helix was being built so I snaffled some ideas. 😉 Here from the viewing angle. I like this lead stuff. heres some more detail with the final drape added. I also added some stat h detail to the plain bit behind the pilots seat. And some more wires that will be visible from ze open door. A bit of a dry fit was in order to see what can be seen. mmmm nice. Not accurate at all but busy non the less. this will look good too when painted, here’s a shot from the other angle. A dry fit of the two halves proved to show a good fit. So as much as I want to start painting it’ll have to wait. Here’s where I am as of tonight. Thanks for your interest and fingers crossed for more action during the week. Happy Modelling chums. Johnny.

The Spadgent
Evening guys. Thanks for the lovely comments. I got a little done last night. I managed to get some Vallejo emerald for the super duper green in the cockpit from the LMS. If it’s not quite right it’s hard cheese I’m affraid as I’ve glossed now ready for weathering pass number one. 😃 Before that I added some more detail with plastic rods and plasticard. im making this up so accuracy has gone out of the window this time. Looks busy though. 😌 I added some dark pre shade. I’m happy with that. Next up is the light blue. Now in the pics it doesn’t look very blue but it is I promise. 😎 looks grey doesn’t it? I know but trust me here. ok I admit is grey Ish .... but looook. Soooo done with the gre.....light blue I move onto the juicy. word of warning, never mix Vallejo model colour with Tamiya thinners. The result is split colour and blotchy paint like the lower one. The upper one was ( after I found it lurking at the back ) mixed with Vallejo flow improver. I added a few details as well as the green/blue I’ll maybe add more after the first weather pass. I do like the colour though, I wish there were more of it. I have done the IP too but forgot to take a pic. These two shots were after a gloss coat. I’ll add the decals and do a weather pass next. Thanks for popping in chums. All the best and Happy Modelling. Johnny. Edited January 17, 2019 by The Spadgent

corsaircorp
Hello Spad !! Spot on ! your "Green" look really good !! Nice blending !! Now, I also use that very fine copper wire from electrical chord ! thin like hairs then you take 3 to 4 ones and twist them. Realism is also surprising and it's an easy to find material…. One begins to suspect that deep within the bowels of the Soviet aviation ministry, a covert Psy-Ops unit was subverting specifications: 'We'll issue instructions to paint the interiors 'peppermint', that will surely sow confusion in the aircrew by inducing profound and disturbing longings for matching curtains on the windows...' Nearly neglected to pass admiring comments on the work so far Johnny, but you know me feelings about the quality of your work already! 1
