Johnc61 Posted January 1, 2019 Share Posted January 1, 2019 Ok, been a long delay on modelling again (after the Spitfire was finished). Christmas has given me some 1/35 figures from WW2 and WW1. First model colour question after looking online, is what colour are their boots (infantry and officer)? Seems it should be easy but there is no clear answer. Some black, some brown. But when. Peter Lloyd Posted March 2, 2019 Share Posted March 2, 2019 Boots were coming to the British Army in 1915-16-17 from anyone who could be pressed to make them. There was some variety in uniforms (and such things as ammunition, shell fuses....). Boots in particular were a bone of contention, as they were often of especially abysmal quality in 1915-16. The majority of boots I have seen in various museums are brown. Canadian and Australian troops generally got their uniforms from local suppliers, to ease the problems. Australian troops had unique corduroy trousers, which show as lighter material especially once they were worn. Soft headgear and things like rifle pouches varied between the Dominion armies. Officers often purchased their own items, reflecting a pre-war requirement that was relaxed after 1914. By late 1917-1918 uniform items were better-made and standardised, but any soldier in late 1917 will be coated in mud, and soldiers from summer 1918 in dust! 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
