Like the MiG-15 in 2018 (link), Zvezda is to rebox in 2019 the old Dragon Models 1/72nd Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 "Fresco" kit - ref.7318

That’s good as that version of the MiG-17 was the most widely used, but as kits go, the least popular. Only kit of it is the 1:72 is the AZ one and the original Dragon release.

Not exactly - Dragon #2512 (also boxed years ago as Bilek #965) actually represents the most numerous MiG-17 variant - the unreheated MiG-17A Fresco A with slim airbrakes.

The AZ kit (seven boxings so far plus three of the -17PF variant) portrays the less numerous but the most widely used (30+ air forces) MiG-17F Fresco C variant with afterburner and large airbrakes.

To complicate things still more, Dragon also manufactured the 1/72 Fresco C as Xian J-5  #2513.

Nevertheless mating the Dragon/Bilek (now Zvezda) rear fuselage with AZ kit should produce a fairly decent MiG-17A at reasonable price :)

MiG-17 in 1968 were rare type of aircraft and used in USSR Fighter-Bomber Aviation - exactly this MiG-17 from the 42 th Guardian Fighter Bomber Aviation Regiment of the USSR Air Force, August 1968, operation “Dunai (Danube)” – invasion of Warsaw pact troops in Czechoslovakia. On fuselage were placed two red stripes – fast recognition signs.

How you think - Victor can be used near Czechoslovakian border?

I do not know, therefore I asked.

The simplest version, Victor for some reason was in West Germany, during the flight there was a malfunction of the navigation equipment.  Flew into the territory of Czechoslovakia, was intercepted by the MiG-17 and they drove him out of the airspace.  A navigation error RAF was recognized, the parties decided to keep silent about the incident.

Could this be the case? Completely!

Of course, I understand that this box-art is a fantasy artist (as many Dragon box-art), but what if we don’t know something?

In Poland the price of Zvezda 7318 is somewhere between Airfix srs.2 and srs.3 kits.

However in most shops it's also equal to the Eduard "weekend edition" MiG-15.

Thus I don't expect it to be "a cheap option" in the UK.

Can anyone tell me if this is a MiG-17 'Fresco A' or is it a MiG-17F 'Fresco C'?

Zvezda kit was born as Dragon #2512 Fresco-A with unreheated VK-1A engine (BTW it's the only 1/72 kit of this most numerous MiG-17 variant)

Dragon had also manufactured the #2513 Fresco-C albeit as Jian Ji-5 https://www.scalemates.com/kits/dragon-2513-jian-ji5--123712

Paradoxically several years ago Czech Bilek company has reboxed the current Zvezda (thus MiG-17A) kit as their #965 calling it - erroneously - the Fresco-C

However both these Dragon/Bilek/Zvezda kits are drastically underscaled overall (something like 1:77-78) with fuselage diameter 14% too small - massacre!
