Stéphane
Hello guys, Been working lately on my last model of the year, the Kinetic 1/48 FRS1 Sea Harrier. Been adding the Noemega cockpit resin kit, intended for the old Airfix kit. Iyt requires a bit of surgery to fit but nothing so complicate. You need to retain the kit cockpit back panel, and thin a bit the cockpit sides, and you're done. She'll be in overall dark sea grey, a Falkland war machine. Hope you'll like her .... Col.
I'm always happy to see a Sea Harrier kit taking shape and this one looks to be going well for you Stephane.
At Sea
Looking very good, please highlight any issues you have as I have an FRS.1 & FA.2 to build at some point.

Words like "modufy" and "tpo" don't belong in the English vocabulary, Werner. Oh, and the informal meaning for "git" could be considered offensive to some people. my mate! Stéphane
Hello guys, Thank you very much for the kind words and support. At Sea, no real issues but some area "needing attention", you'll see in the pics below that air intakes are a bit tricky to tackle (PITA coming to mind ) and although the rendition of additional doors opening according to gravity is quite nifty, one need to check, align, check again, align, sand fill, etc. Modelling, ya' know. Exdraken, I'm not sure whether Neomega are still developping new products, which is a pity as their products are quite exotic and out of the very much exploited trails of F- something . Well, on to the today's work. Coaming in position, had to use the kit instrument panel, though. As I said air intakes needed attention, and the wing to fuselage seam will also be tricky, I think. As usual, you can click image to get the larger thingy. Best, Stéphane 3
Stéphane
Hello , Well, been adding the wing to the fuselage and that is going to be seam and putty inferno, the creep is fighting every inches to completion. There's a thickness discrepancy between the wing and fuselage, fortunately, underwing, but it's there never the less. Been adding plasticard to compensate, will putty and sand to re-form properly. Same for the upper fuselage seam, behing the cockpit : when looking at the photos of the real plane, this area is as smooth as a baby bottom ... we're far of it ! :). Don't trust the instruction sheet for placing the Aden gun pods ... cause there are no instructions at all to place them. Thanks to the SAM publication 1/48 scale drawing in their modeller datafile book, I was able to locate the position. Well, I hope to begin painting tomorrow afternoon or Sunday (more realistic), and of course my order grain 400 sanding paper is still somewhere in the post. As usual, you can click the vignettes to get the large piccie. Stef (#6) Edited December 28, 2018 by Stéphane rework of images links
Mike
Looks good Stephane If you were to link the photos using the "Share" option, and choose "Hotlink for forums:" (or whatever that is in French), everyone would be able to see your pics directly in the page, rather than squint or click back and forth between the postimg page

Frank083

Lazy I am too, don't worry Mike 😃 Franck, one need to test fit, and yes the Kinetic kits are a bit on the brutal side, but in the end, I will prevail 😃😃😃. I've been surviving OEZ MiG 21 and Special'Hobby Skua, so a little puttty here and there won't hold me back
Stéphane
Hello guys, Nothing fancy today, except sanding the putty .... Tomorrow, I will restore the lines damaged by the sanding and on to the patingin (well, hopefully ! ), that'is if the new year's eve preparation doesn't come in the way.

Stéphane
Hello guys, First of all, all the best for the new year to all britmodeller members, may 2019 see all ypur projects flourish, your stash increase and your models be completed ! More progress on the Sea Harrier FRS1. Panel lines which were damaged by sanding are rescribed and the windshield is set in place. Of course, the seams are the usual kit standard - ranging from awful to terrible. On with Mister Surfacer 500, a careful sanding and it's time for a black base coat (Tamiya acryl satin black), which allow seam check and serve as a base coat for the final hue (Extra dark sea grey). Found a pic n the SAMI modeller datafile of a Harrier with a fuel bag retaining the old paint scheme in the center section, while painted a lighter grey elsewhere .... Don't know if this was applied during the Falklands operations but it enlive the model a bit. Too bad this one wasn't completed in 2018.
Col.
Well done taming the seams and getting this one ready for paint. Like the multi-coloured tank as well
Stéphane
Thanks Col, Yes the EDSG scheme is very ...... dark 😁 and the multi coloured tank will pimp it a bit. Painting coming soon, a change from putty/sanding/putty/sanding .... Stef (#6)

Stéphane
Thanks Colin, Extra dark sea grey to go on this afternoon, just after I decide whether I'll get the flaps down or no. I've been patrolling the various pics on the web and couldn't come to a conclusion : are the flaps down when the engine is off?
Stéphane
Hello there, At long last after the somewhat painful process of sanding and puttying, here is the first coat of paint on, Extra dark sea grey ! [well, ok, technically it's the second one after the black base coat] Well, sorry for the crapy piccies, I'll do better ones during the week-end and with the completion of the painting. Stéphane
Hello guys, Right, the Sea Harrier is in good shape, weathering has begun (well is almost complete, in fact) but I'm facing a delicate choice. I will depict a Sea Harier from 899 Sqn aboard HMS Hermes during operation Corporate. I've been reading in the SAM book that squadron markings were over-painted, especially the winged fist on the the tail as well as the Royal Navy lettering. I would like to reproduce this over paint , Kinetic provides the winged fist in 2 styles, with and without white, but I'm a bit worried by decals thickness and I don't have close pics of the real thing to get a grip of the effect. so , would by any chance any member have this kind of image ? And what would you do ? My effort so far, the plane is EDSG (Gunze acryl) over a black basing, weathering especially for the undersides is Dark sea grey, highly diluted .... Here you are : Looking forward to your inputs, Best, Stéphane
