There are several PSC tanks on the go and I'm afraid I'm joining the hoard.

I know virtually nothing about Panzer IVs so I hope the cognoscenti will help me along the way.

PSC may not make the most accurate of kits, but they offer a decent canvas in my opinion. And progress is qquick. This is intended to be an Ausf. H, and I'm doing minimal alterations. Is the two piece commander's hatch right for an H though?

 

There are some hefty knock-out pin marks (the tracks have it worse)

One of the things I like about PSC kits is that the tracks can often be assembled separately, which makes painting much easier.

I convinced myself that the hatch had to be changed. Unfortunately it was well stuck on so some work was required.

And then decided the Notek light deserved some attention - carefully sliced off, and remounted on a short stub of florists wire.

My lack of of knowledge means I'm unsure which parts to use. The kits seem to be closest to Ausf. F I think, but anyway I've pressed on. I borrowed @Mitch K's idea of cutting a groove into the spare wheels to suggest their dual nature, and I've fitted the filter thingummybob on the opposite side. I've given it a a quick blast of Humbrol 237 Desert Fan which I like as a scale-effect Dunkelgelb (it's probably not yellow enough really).

Beer was consumed, good cheer was had, we've picked the turkey up from the farm shop, and the veg are prepped. Back to the bench, and progress on number 2, while 3 has been started and basecoat paint is currently drying (photos of 3 later). Here are 1 & 2, 2 exhibiting a little damage on the left front, headlamp and Notek light lost, schurzen damaged...

The damaged schurzen is very fragile, were I a proper modeller I might make a brass frame but it would be a bit wasted on this quick build kit.

Good camo! One thing that bothers me in these kits is the oversize muzzle brake. Would it be difficult to take a wide bladed hacksaw and slice maybe a millimeter or even two off of its length? That looks like an Israeli Isherman gun there! The one piece commanders' hatch is definitely right option for most (later) L48- gunned Hanses. V-P

It's probably possible, but I have some replacement barrels on their way which should solve the problem.

Hi ‘stix , been busy back at work and finishing planes so no progress to show. Wrestling with how best to represent zimmerit, have ordered some etch for the revell version to try. I can’t get on with milliput as it just sticks to everything except what I want - maybe I need to let it cure a little before trying to roll out and attach.

Hi Jon. That's fair enough. As long as you haven't forgotten about us! Yeah I can't get on with Milliput/other make your own Zimmerit. Like you - I tend to get it everywhere. Hope you find a suitable solution.

I use good old humbrol model filler and a academy zimmermit tool slap it on really thin let dry and then just scrape through. Try on a piece of scrap plastic and see what you think.
