I am signing off on the structure of the CH-53D and began adding my home brew transfers

Love that side-by-side Bill.

Damnably entertaining progress since I last dropped by!

I have surpassed myself this time, rolling into this build when one of the kits has been finished and presented in all it's glory, berate me as required Bill.

Having had a good catch up with the thread it is fair to say you have had some fun. As I am now fully tuned in you have my undivided attention, I have the Merlin kit in the stash so this thread may well be my Merlin Bible.

Superb CH53 by the way, she seems to have almost fallen together.

Onwards and upwards....

Oi behave the lot of you

I'm Scouted out, to the point I gave my last one away

My Airfix Whirlwind has a part to play in Korea

And my next Sea King will be various shades of green

And fade

Any future CH-53 will be Pave Low and not carting dead Sea Kings around

And whatever I build will not, of necessity, go built in-flight

I've little enough space in the Midget as it is, big high boxes are a nono

Get yourself a Tardis then; or a TR7 which from a luggage point of view, pretty much amounts to the same thing.

Andy are my eyes playing me up?

Second down of your pics looks like a CH-53Gof the HEER hoiking up a dead or dying Sea King

Bless me, it was a long away to Hafilax

Still seeing number 50 in my minds eye on the M6 and stationary cars etc. on the M62 as soon as I got on it

Mwahhh😕

Ced, I was very glad I wore my Regatta overtrousers on the way up to Halifax, little Lara was built out of recycled sieves

And they forgot to fill the holes when they fitted  the scuttle  :)

All dried up for the drive home which was nice, I enjoyed returning to the M6/M62 area for the first time in a long while

My old trucking days came back to me, should have had a few Abba tapes to replay the good old days of the eighties huh

I took the CH-53D to club for its ritual ignoring, which didnt hurt as much as usual because Tomo won the day

It's good to keep it all in the family huh  :)

Anyway as I treated the Ch-53D as a quick less detailed build and stash reduce I thought I would pop this out too

Shouldn't take a fortnight to get this one done

🤯

Okayy, first things first

The Merlin, grey thing we started with a while back has not been forgotten

A lot!

but real progress is awaiting a paint job

Which has been awaiting me getting some Tamiya Smoke inside the upper glazing and which is now done

Satisfactorily me thinkses

I have also added the internal shade rails sans shades

Checking all my references shows the shades as being invisible under service unless the crew actually pull them forward

None of my photos show  the shade working and all show a cluttered rear cockpit ceiling so I have made the decision, shades out of sight but the rails they run on being left in situ

For the look of it

:)

Also adding to the cluttery are a pair of wiggly wires one to each side depending from the rear of the roof console

The console on my model is courtesy of Richard who sent me his assortment of improver bits, might be eduard bits

very welcome

P1010183.jpg

P1010186.jpg

I can get this in place now and begin masking

And then begin experimenting with assorted nautical looking greys and grays

fun fun fun, some of them have to appear almost blue  :(

Whilst still being grey!

In t'interim I have been giving my self a nodding acquaintance with the Kiowa

Interesting interim...

Made a small start, right really, it is a small kit

P1010175.jpg

Photos show grey interior not cockpit black as Matchbox suggest (Matchbox suggestions and their rectitude will loom larger than the Kiowa during this debate)

As I found when I managed to cobble the rotor head and blades together the mouldings didnt put flatness as any priority when getting done

And didn't seem to care what colour the rotor blades and tail rotor ought to be

'scuse the blur, dinner wont be far away this evening

P1010179.jpg

I can find nothing on the instructions that give me colours for the main rotor blades nor the tail rotor

All I find is a suggestion that the rotor head alone should be light grey

However research shows this lovely image of a Kiowa has very dark grey as the main colour

I intend doing it this way, looks good enough to me huh

P1010180.jpg

-I need to see what to do about the instruments

The kit decal is bigger than the moulded panel...

P1010182.jpg

And a different shape

Right its Steak Night at 'spoons and I need to get ready

ciao

nice wiggliness on the wiring Bill.

I envy your ability to keep the mojo burning and even pull potential builds from the stash.  I'm sorely tempted to put the Fly to one side and start on a diversionary build.  The other half of me just wants it out of the way and far far behind me cos I know if I put it aside, I'll never pick it up again
