Fifty shades .. H-19 the circle closed, ciao baby

perdu

Recommended Posts

I was working in the lab, late one night when

I remembered where I had put this

I have been doing things to it but with little success in general but amongst the horrid fitting the screen and canopy I also gave myself  a little light relief making the legs for the nose wheels which had been moulded as simple pug into the side affairs by Airfix

They ned to sit inside the opened out engine bay and have a pair of fixed mount places that attach to the front bulkhead

for your amusement

A pair of drag links will join the sliding piece to the fixed one

And progress is being made with the front screen, pics in a bit, I have Milliputtery fingers at the mo'

this week's test

huh?

15681211557442626157237804889344.jpg

what do these victims have in common?

And further to the progress of the H-19

15681212075266898042318119291545.jpg

Small moves forwards

This will be seen to be the early style windscreen with four separate clear panels. later versions have twin screens with support struts inside to brace them

Intention was to build this for a Korean War Challenge from our friends across the pond to B'ham IPMS

This is going to miss the deadline of 14th Sep by a country mile

It may miss the deadline, but it will look so much better for it!

Aah, that pic of the silver plastic brought back memories...."sing something simple", the shipping forecast, and that high pitched whine that always seemed to be there at night, on a transistor radio of an evening, and glue all over my fingers......

I have his autograph... apparently I'm a good friend of his :penguin:  (great song though)

great looking shot Bill.  We can really see what's beginning to emerge from this kit with the application of enough Bill

perfectly formed, by our perdu

P9100001.jpg

I just realized - he must have sent me that just months before he passed away.

*  Technically, not a Whirlwind, but close enough.

I'll get me coat...

Silly b*ggar wrote all over the picture!

Sorry Alan, had to but…

That must be a very proud possession and it sounds as if you were good mates.

The song will have extra meaning for us too, now.

Thank you for letting us share too.

Indeed.  Perhaps such kits should now come with a warning that an application of Bill is required?

Sorry Bill it was meant a bit tongue in cheek.

I ordered the CD from him for a Halloween party but it didn't turn up in time so I sent him a friendly reminder.  He responded, was very apologetic and that started an email chain.

He sent the CD as well as a bunch of other paraphernalia... way more than the CD ever cost.

It's only now that I realize he must have been in the latter stages of leukemia.  Never once did he try and make excuses, or even mention he was ill.

A very nice guy.

I kinda guessed from the tone that there might be something of the jest about it

It would appear that the guy was a genuine nice bloke too, without a doubt we all get poorer when talented folk pass away

Not a topic to dwell upon though when I am feeling low at the mo', here's why

Remember the front undercart legs I posted a few days ago?

These?

P1010080_(1).jpg

It must be said I was quite pleased with those but...

Always a but huh?

I left the modelling room/space/pigsty last night embarrassed because one of them vanished after me finding the other on the laminate floor

Doh.

Mrs P with a total lack of humour re-labelled  the 'office' the pigsty and demanded I take the long handled floor sweeper upstairs to sweep out every corner, bound to find it if you do it right

I did, in pieces so I had a frantic afternoon searching my very few spares caches already fearing I would not be able to replace the broken bits

As it happens I had to break into my stashlet to find a sacrificial model to donate its legs with curved yokes

I found one at the last gasp, which I think will be better than the original which was pushing accuracy a bit too far down the road for me but needs must huh

This pair have been extracted from a box and suitably detailed wheels given up many years ago from the Airfix CH-46 Sea Knight also earmarked for the job

15682083373731246242176349840574.jpg

Coming from a model I will never make I  think it is a fair exchange

I had to search through my cache of little wheels too

Nowhere near enough spare little wheels, must purloin more

15682084670883718870983271534406.jpg

Next question for the discerning eyes of my friends

Here is  the aeroplane with its front legs akimbo, exposed for all the world to see its indignity

15682088536238731073092235450291.jpg

Ought I  consider shortening the model legs by a millimetre?

nb drag links to be added yet

From what I see the actual fork section is too long but the gubbins atop the fork bit is within my 'eye' parameters

I think if I can remove an mm from the fork bit and then (the big ask) get the axle back on the shortened fork I may be OK, do you see what I mean?

I may have to try drilling a new axle tube/rod to accept the fork section

It's a good job a thin skin of cyano will stiffen polystyrene that has been rejointed

Here you go Bill, in the post later:

🎶 Some big ones, some small ones and some with a bit of paint on… 🎶

(If you're singing that song now, you're a rude boy!)

I've promised myself this lot will not go back in the box - it needs organising and I have the partitioned boxes!

Funny enough I was not singing that song, I forget the     tune

I was playing the "is that a Gloster Meteor undercarriage on top of the pile?" game instead

Thanks for those Ced, they will be made welcome and probably tucked up snug at night too

Er, possibly? I've certainly built a couple.

I've included some nice legs too - no use to me.

I've also included some enormous wheels and I have no idea where they came from. Possibly the Peacemaker?

No idea, sorry… but there will be some bits from brown and green jobs! :)
