Su-35UB (T-10UBM-1) in 1/72 scale - Zvezda Su-27UB and Revell/Zvezda Su-33 conversion

Recommended Posts

Since long time I was waiting for Zvezda's new Su-27UB kit (7294) for one of my ongoing Flanker projects namely Su-35UB. The main idea is to merge Zvezda's Su-33 and Su-27UB kits.

Next I will add some pictures of my work in progress.

Regards,

Serkan

You mean Su-33? Insted of -27SM?

You are right. I mean Su-33 🙂

Also I have slightly changed the project name to Su-35UB as I have almost all necessary modified parts from my ongoing Su-27M (T-10M) conversions, Su-30MKI/MKM will follow this modification mainly with new vertical tails and thrust vectoring nozzles.

Exactly. I have already the "cloned" fins from my Su-27M project (modified from Trumpeter Su-30MKK).

I have also almost finished 3 view drawings and markings (most of the time I print my own decals for my special projects). I will post the drawings soon.

I am a bit in difficulty in identifying the actual colors of this unique blue camouflage.

Here are the upper surfaces of Su-27UB and Su-33 kits... The blue line is the cut line for Su-33 kit to remove canard shoulders.

Here is the fit check of right part and comparison versus original left side:

Now all parts are ready for fit check:

The next modification is the nose part replacement..

Su-35UB has the following differences than Su-27UB at nose:

  1. IRST moved to right side of canopy
  2. Refueling system (light and probe) is installed

These features are already in Su-33 kit:

After gluing all parts together:

The next step will be the front lower surface modification.

The front lower surface of Su-35UB will be mainly taken from Su-33 kit. The front part has been removed between slat root and just before the MLG bays:

354.jpg

Su-33 has longer NLGB door than Su-27UB. Therefore additional modification is needed to correct this:

Before NLGB area replacement:

After replacement, the gaps have been filled with small amount of putty. Shorter NLG bay and door cause small shift in nose area. Therefore a small slot (approximately 1mm) has been opened to align panel lines.

The following shots show completed lower and upper surface modifications of Su-35UB nose:

The next step will be test of complete aircraft parts including Su-30MKK fins to see if all components will fit together...

Thanks lot Stuart.

As mentioned before, here are my first 3 view drawings. I am a bit in difficulty to find actual camouflage colors. With my best guesstimate (partially from Begemot decal instructions, partially from internet search) here are the colors I have currently picked:

Light Blue : FS25550 (RGB 160.205.220)

Mid Blue : FS25250 (RGB 87.149.206)

Dark Blue : FS25095 (RGB 5.67.154)

Any suggestion/comment about colors and drawings are highly appreciated 🙂

Hi everyone,

After a short Christmas break here I am back to report my progress on Su-35UB modification project. As I have posted before the next step is part fit check;

I have "cloned" modified Su-30MKK fins and Su-33 canards from my ongoing "T-10M series" project...

368.jpg

All main parts have been taped together to build complete aircraft temporarily:

Now the bird seems ready to finish 🙂

Next step is to identify correct blue tones to complete the model. Any support/suggestion for the colors is highly appreciated...

I use Tamiya acrly and Model Master enamel paints.

Care to pass on your 'cloning ' process? :hmmm:

Hi Stuart,

As I am not a native English speaker, I am not sure whether I understood correctly what you meant. Does it mean that you would like to know how I replicate the parts? 🤔

  • 3 months later...

After a very long break I am back to complete this project. I have completed the mask drawings last weekend:

2097.jpg

and here are the vinyl masks:

2094.jpg

The masks were placed on model:

In overall the mask patches fit well. But some modifications have to be made at highly curved areas especially at spine.
