Shark Mouth Spitfire

Any spitfires ever painted with a shark Mouth? If so I'm looking for either 1/72 or 1/48 decals for one...

457 Sq RAAF had all its aircraft with sharkmouths of varying styles.  Do a Google image search on Spitfire and "Grey Nurse".

I know of two French examples, Tony O'Toole did this Vc in the Brit's Abroad GB

 

Model Art and Berna Decals have also covered a French Mk.IX used in French Indochina, the Berna Decals can be seen here in 1/48th, the Model Art 1/72nd ones are long out of print.

There is an example of this Mk.IX from the Greek Air Force. Note the exposed cannons as an interesting mod. ?

Frog made an Spifire in 1/72 with sharkmouth. Was it from 457th Sq RAAF?

Yes, there has been a lot on transfer options for 457 Sq.  The Greek and French Spitfire Mk.IXs are postwar examples, if that matters.  The Greek one is drawn as a Mk.VIII - I hadn't realised they got any.

There are plenty, especially Australian ones. Also American from North Africa and some French. If you can find these 1:48, you have plenty to select between.

As others have said the Australians have alot of them.

I'm building one at the moment from the Aussie eight boxset from Eduard I think there are about 6 shark mouth options. You get two kits aswell!

If you want an Australian one, google 'Australian Spitfire + RGV', and you find plenty of photos of Gibbs' plane, both from the war and from later reconstructions including models. The decals for this plane are still available here:

It is one of the more spectacular renderings of sharkmouths on Spitfires.

 

If you want an American, there is a Mk.Vc from North Africa, printed at Aero Master decals but probably very difficult to find.

They didn't, the drawing just wrongly depicts a Mk.VIII while the actual MH558 was a Mk,.IX.

That explains it ... I knew the profile didnt quite look right ?
