Romeo Alpha Yankee
Nice one Lex, I have one of these in the stash. how are you going to handle matching the painted stripes tot eh decal stripes?
Lex77
Hi Ray, got the Italeri paint and will try what will be the best match when I spray it on a white or a grey unnderground. If that paint won't be a match I'll have to search further but got my hope on the Italeri paint.
Lex77
Had some time to work on the cockpit today and made some good progress on it. 20181216_203504 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr 20181216_203512 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr 20181216_203521 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr

Lex77
Some more work done on the C-27J (and ATR). Construction almost completed'; 20190103_184927 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr 20190103_200558 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr And while primering; IMG-20190103-WA0005 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr Found some seams so some more sanding tomorrow,
Romeo Alpha Yankee
Looks good Lex, did you have any fit issues? Looks like you had to add some filler around the wing-fuselage joints. I have heard of others having problems with the cockpit transparency not fitting that well.
Lex77
Thanks for the reply Ray. It needs some filler on the underside of the front fuselage and the connection where the wings and stabilizers meet the fuselage. Yes the transparency needs some attention, took quite some carefull sanding to get it flush.
Lex77
Had my last day of vacation so had some time to put the white coat on it. 20190104_202921 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr Been trying to find out what to do to get the right dayglow colour. Ordered the Italeri paint and made some test with different underground colours. From left to right Alclad grey primer, MR Paint grey primer, MR Paint USN white and just plain white, To me it seems the Alclad primer looks the best match but not exactly, what do you think? 20190104_202743 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr
Romeo Alpha Yankee
I never thought of changing the underlying base coat colour to match a decal. I suppose it saves wasting paint trying to mix it. Nice work Lex.
Lex77
Found out the hard way that the wrong base colour would give the wrong end result. Been airbrushing and masking for the last couple of days; 20190109_205510 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr The last colour, the black leading edges; 20190110_202302 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr Hope to get it unpacked tomorrow,

Lex77
The masking is removed and did some touching up. 20190111_170407 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr Had some more time today so have been gloss coating the C-27J. 20190112_214526 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr
Lex77
Started the decalling, pretty dissapointed with the Italeri decals; 20190113_172314 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr 20190113_174802 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr Don't think I will make some changes to the paint work so have to live with this.
Romeo Alpha Yankee
That is unfortunate. I think I will be masking and spraying mine when the time comes. You could contact Italeri and show the issues, they won't fix the decal but may send a send out to you for extra parts.
Lex77
Masking of the horizontal stabilizer is the best way to go. Replacement or additional decals will be too late so will try to fix it with the decals provided but someone at Italeri needs some new glasses or a new ruler because there are some big mistakes in the lenght of the decals. zebra
Those decals do look poor. Apart from that your model is looking great.
Lex77
It indeed is a shame because it doesn't do the model any good. One side done; 20190114_210238 by Lex de Kort, on Flickr
