2nd Republic...1/48 T-34/85 Austrian Army

#33/2018

My dad´s first 1/48 armour contribution to our homeland collection.
Hobby Boss kit oob, roundel decals from IPMS Austria, base colour is Revell 46 Nato-oliv for RAL7013, shaded with a selfmixed acrylic paint.
Due to the lack of suiting number and tactical sign decals, the tank is displayed in a very early form with only Austrian roundels applied.

When the Allied occupation of Austria ended in 1955, the Russians "donated" 27 T-34/85 for the revived Austrian Bundesheer. The tanks saw WW2 combat action and were stored from 45 to 55. Together with a bunch of US donated M24 they were the backbone of the early Austrian tankforce.
In the late 50ies early 60ies they were replaced with M41, 47 and 60.
A few were dug in and used as fixed positions/pill boxes until the year 2000. A few survivors still exist in some army bases and in our military museum for display.

not the usual operator when you think T-34!

ok... another model I need to do!

(will Tamiya do Leopard 2 in 48 one day???????)

Possible that Tamiya releases one someday, but I guess it would be an A5 or A6

yeah..... :(  better than nothing... but depending on the design that could be hard to convert! ... more likely the Bundesheer is upgrading their own  .....

Maybe there is a resin kit, but turret numbers and tactical signs would be once again a problem in 1/48...

Planning to do some 1/35 vehicles some day, Austrian decals are available from Schefczik Decals and sold by Austrian-Military-Models.at, but both sites are down due maintenance for some time now, hope they aren´t out of business, but at least I already have some decals sheets with number plates, numbers and tactical signs from them.
