Bell AH-1G Cobra - Spanish Nayy - Armada Española 1/48 - questions!

Recommended Posts

Another interesting, longer time researched model I wanna make in 1/48. (1/72 would be a lot easier!!!!)

Spanish Navy, Armada Española Attack component

AH-G Cobra

1/48

relatively rare Fujimi kit (the only G model in 48th.... why ever..)

Cobra Company Resin cockpit (for the J, but better than nothing ;) )

Series Españolas Decals

The Spanish Navy operated 8 Cobras, being replaced more or less by the Harrier

quite a lot of info here already assembled, thanks guys!:

The Spanish Navy operated 8 Cobras on the helicopter carrier Dedalo, being replaced more or less by the AV-8S Harrier (Matador ) during the 80ies, see also here Spanish Navy Harrier AV-8S Matador  ;)

it will be armed with SUU-11 gun containers (quickboost) and rocket pods (still to be sourced or found lying around)

a quick start tonight:

it is a very small chopper and therefor model, only a few parts! hope that will speed up my average build time!

the cockpit resin parts look nice!

hope that something will be seen after closing the canopy!!

cheers y adios for now!

I would hold off using that kit Werner. It was made with references from the prototype and not the production model. You would be better off with the AH-1J kit from Fujimi. This kit is missing the M28 turret w/M134 minigun & M129 grenade launcher, the tail rotor is on the left and needs to be on the right, and also needs the skid fairing covers (wider fairing).

Hi!

thanks , yes, the J would be a better base.... but after several years of searching one.....

the grendade launcher needs to be scratched.. no too big issue!

the fairings that comes with a gun installment I will not use..... so I guess I am good to go in this respect....

thanks for the tail rotor info! probably would have noticed too late myself!!

thanks.... I guess too late... already started!  wonder how I would tackle the wrong engine fairing issue though!

now I see what you mean by skid fairings...... skid strut fairings actually! --- hmm no idea how to do those,..... i switched side for the tailrotor laready and base painted the cockpit

the pylons are also wrong by the way!

b0qYcv3.jpg

they need weapon pylon mounts on the outer end... and the 2nd one is of course also missplaced.....

slowly  I see why hardly none are seen built anywhere!!

are the pylons ok sizewise?

cockpit base painted, nothing special yet...

to be continoued!

I have three or four of the various Fujimi Cobras, non of which are state of the art. I keep going back to the Monogram kit but that doesn't inspire me either!

I'll follow your build with interest. Here's hoping soemone will realise there is a gap for new kits of all the Cobra variants.

hi everybody,

as the wings? and pylons are also different from the production model,

what about Monogram AH-1F pylons/ wings?

the wings are sizewise nearly identical (minus the tip pylon of course)

the tip pylon has some more pronounced protrusion imho....

what do you think?
