i would love to see what he writes

the info on that decals paperwork i got seem to suggest the same thing Nils

-read these texts below (also note on the non camouflaged gray aircraft that they seem to show hints of a camouflaged aircraft being overpainted "roughly" with a very slight hint at camouflage peeking through

Note that what you refer to as "non camouflaged" aircraft, indeed was camouflaged - but with a single colour. Extra Dark Sea Grey (or Dark Sea Grey) was regarded as a better camouflage than Dark Green / Medium Sea Grey, against the dark North Sea surface.

Sorry Nils my mistake. i’m not so good with correct terminology

i meant the disruptive camouflage when i was refering to camo

A little update on the Mozzie:

I've joined the nacelles to the wings now

And cleaned up the gear after installing the tanks there.

They still need cleaning up further but i think i'll keep the tyres really muddy.

I also started a bit of work on the cockpit with some PE, first time i have really delved into this, my god it's fiddly stuff isn't it?

and i'm not sure on top of that my eyes are as fresh as they used to be.

Wow, this is really coming along nicely (and at a good pace – I've only taken pieces of the sprue on mine!).

Looking forward to seeing the "non-camouflaged" finish.

Regards,

David

a second update for the day (had opportunity to do a lot today)

i worked a little more on the cockpit

31498982857_595d8cb61f_b.jpg

i'm really happy how this is coming along

installed these babies

45715292074_d1d5180229_c.jpg

tried doing PE belts, i have to play with these a bit more they are very tricky to get half decent.

and the mosquito i'm making has the "gee mk2" radio navigation system installed

31498981847_2641893ea5_c.jpg

so it would look wrong to put the kit parts in.

so i've never tried any scratch building or using plasticard and i dont have any anyway

so i tried to adjust the kit parts to make the gee.

this is in progress - not sure how it will turn out but seems like its going the right way.

i remember reading a WIP thread for user FOZZY on here and he used plastic yoghurt pots so i stole the idea here and used a plastic cup to make spacers where i had wonkily cut two kit radio parts at the wrong angle. i think sanding and filling will make it ok. so the end result there will be kinda wonky but in the right direction and under the canopy glass half cinvincing is the plan.

so all in all a good day i learnt a lot here

Excellent work so far Dansk, the undercarriage looks fantastic and the cockpit is really shaping up nicely too.

Great choice of airframe HR116 was built by Standard Motors at Ansty just outside Coventry on a site I used to work on until a couple of years ago, one of the buildings I used to work in there was the Mosquito assembly shop and some machines and tools still had DeHavilland name plates on them.

Thanks a lot. Oh wow that’s pretty cool.

must have been a good feeling going to work at such a historic site.

A little update before a week of vacation.

I discovered the Gee had a frame to hold it (from someones RC plane it looks like as far as i can tell)

46400143852_7d16360c75_c.jpg

i attempted to make one - i havent done this before either but it turned out a touch crude.

thats the name of the game i guess - some stuff works some stuff is less good when you try new things.

i made it from the parts i wouldnt use on the kit: missile rails, bomb door struts and the like.

but when the pilot seat is in place its not really seen so much.

i’m half-toying with the idea of redoing the stand properly.

second try might be better.

(unit on the rear shelf is still being worked on also)

the cockpit has had a wash (not brought back or worked on yet in the photos)

I also developed on with the gee itself.

i made the dials from a cocktail stick and the large display one from a sprue.

again its a bit crude for my liking and annoying me so i might try making another (not sure how to get it more detailed though?

31498981847_2641893ea5_c.jpg

only thing is all this learning stuff takes aaaggges and is trial error and i might miss the deadline.

what do you guys think - redo make better?

or live with it put it down to experience and get on with it?

i think i should redo all of the gee and stand stuff maybe you guys have some advice / tips

Paul, you're doing a tremendous job here!

I'm currently beavering away on a similar 333 Sqn Mossie but I never delved into those radio details as you did, even though I have the Aviaeology decal set as well...

Nice work in the rest of cockpit by the way.

Happy new year everyone.
After a little vacation i’ve made a few developments on the mosquito.

Firstly i contacted aviaeology about the upcoming gee photoetch set and that will only be available mid-march to april. (Which means its almost definately too late for this group build) 🙄

But i think it will be perfect for my build so i’ve decided to scrap my rubbish scratch built gee and wait for the photo etch and do it properly.

So i intend to push onwards and squeeeeezing in the aviaeology PE at the end (keeping the canopy removable) if its not on the market before the group build end date then so be it.

I noticed on the web that tamiya do offer the option on their 1:72 kit but not on this 1:48 annoyingly. 😤

Anyway
I have added a little detail to the starboard side cockpit.
Extracting and using some wire from those little twisty things to seal food bags.

They replicate (crudely) some of the (wiring looms?)

44772364640_725e4180b6_m.jpg

I’ve also used the same wire to replicate the unused left channels for the gee set up on the rear shelf.

44772366810_80ac13280b_c.jpg

On the port side i have added further detail to the PE with a strip off the unneeded rocket launcher frame to recreate the framework below the throttles.

44772366440_9b3641cbdc_b.jpg

The seats and harnesses are all sorted and i think its looking ok.
I notice that 90 percent of all this work is completely invisible when the fuselage is joined so its pretty much a waste of time but i know its there anyway. 😣
