333 Squadron Mosquito * FINISHED *

Recommended Posts

Apart from the last couple of photos (?!?), this appears to be a very vice model. However, with the closeup photos of the nose guns, you might possibly consider drilling out the gun openings....?

hi all

another update this evening:

I have been removing the dirt wash with dry and slightly damp tissues, and cotton buds.

I have left lots in certain areas and removed more in others.

I like the feel now it's starting to feel like one of those used 333 squadron mosquitoes i think.

I’m pretty happy where it is at now, so i have given the whole thing a matt varnish to seal it in preparation for oil details next.

(i’ve not tried oils yet so i am looking forward to that - should be fun!)

so onwards with the plan:

· oils,

· exhaust staining

· gun cartridge ejection holes staining

· guns are to be painted matt black and then dry brushed (and drilled out as suggested by nils - i have to figure out how to do that properly)

· flat spots on wheels,

· aerials and rigging,

· undercarriage doors fitting.

Wow, very messy. I have not dabbled in these washes before. Do you wait for it to dry before removing the excess?

Yes Ray, then wipe it off with slightly damp tissues and cotton buds, if you really soak them you can pretty much take it all off and start again.

Oops! Such a nasty slip on the bay doors, but good to hear that it was mended all right.

Have lots of fun with the weathering now!

Thanks Christer!

Very nice model, Paul. Normally I do not like very heavily weathered models, as it is easy to overdo it. But on this model it seems absolutely right.

As the aircraft were painted in the EDSG/Sky scheme in the field, we do not know if all stenciling etc. was reapplied. It might have been.

Job well done!

This is GREAT work Paul!

The sum of all painting, detailing and weathering is truly beautiful and it creates just the perfect look for a hard working warhorse.

Well done!

That's really nice of you Christer, Thanks so much!

I learn't so much on this and am really looking forward to doing new kits.

Saw this in the gallery Paul, looks great

BTW, in my opinion, the weathering isn't too heavy,  it is just fine.

Thanks so much Robert that’s so nice of you to say. Sometimes it’s hard to be subjective when you’ve spent so long working on the same thing.
