Tamiya Pz IV Ausf. D - DAK

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'll be building the old Tamiya Pz IVD.

It looks like it'll be an easy build.  I'm going to finish it in DAK marking to go with the El Alamein Sherman I did last year.

Dave.

Really enjoyed building this kit, for the price I think it still holds up well and produces a nice model.

Good to see another one of the good old Tamiya Pz.IVs being built. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Kind regards,

Stix

Ooh - I have one of these I inherited from an unknown local modeller who sadly died.

It's part started so ineligible for this gb but I intend to finish it as a tribute to him.

:hmmm:started by you or the late modeller? Stix and Moi Myself would probably take a liberal approach in counting the 25% if that could be regarded as a tribute build to the original builder...

Thank you very kindly.

It was mostly built and painted by the late modeller but was damaged when I received it with some missing bits (sourced via britmodeller :like:!)

I'm planning to rebuild it with some etch, new tracks as the originals had perished, and a few tweaks here and there.

Not sure I'll get time to do it for the gb but if I finish my planned build I'll give it a go.

All the best

Ben

Planning on building one of these kits too! Intention is to build a French campaign machine.

Hi All,

It all went together easily, as expected.

Wow great progress, I do like that the Tamiya kits go together so easily. Looking forward to seeing which way you go with the “How to paint your wheels quiz” 🙂 just finished sanding mine  but haven’t decided how to paint, either separately or on the hull.

That has gone together beautifully and quickly! Well done.

Good luck with the wheels!

Kind regards,

Stix

Hi All

A bit more progress.

I thought I'd get the tedious job of the wheels out of the way early on.

Hi Steve,

It's Tamiya XF-60, with a few drops of Ultimate Thinner.  I've only just started the Ultimate Thinner, but it seems to slow down the drying time and you get a smoother finish. (Caveat - if you use too much thinner then it's like water, it just runs).

Dave.

Next -  a bit of filler, tools, decals, weathering and it'll be over if not by Christmas at least by New Year.

Aye up Dave.

I use a fair bit of ultimate thinner myself. Pretty good stuff. The Panzer is looking great. Look forward to seeing it weathered.
