All looking ship .... er tank shape. My advice is to leave all the painting until an hour before the deadline.

Rearguards,

Badder

Thank you and sounds reasonable.........not!! 😜

Blimey Stix, you'll have it finished by Christmas Eve at this rate. Nice progress.

Maybe not.............but it is fairly straight forward so far. The annoying thing is the amount of seam lines and bits of flash that need to be removed and tidied up. Just seems a bit odd on a new kit. Fewer parts.....more seam lines and flash! :banghead:

Aye up Stix,

That looks a nice kit. Nice to see its not the usual Dragon offering with around 40 parts for the jack alone! :wicked:

Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve. Yes it is a bit more sensible in terms of parts - just a bit annoying, as I mentioned to Ozzy above, about the amount of seam lines and flash. Hey ho.

Kind regards,

Stix

Well in amongst checking on other people’s builds I have been doing a bit of work on mine.

I had to glue a whole TWO parts together to make up each suspension units!:

Well, I will try and post my pics tomorrow, but I spent 3-4 hours on Sunday evening cleaning up one side of wheels, and making one suspension unit, the suspension unit alone was at least 10 parts... slightly jeal looking wt these pics

Hi Stix........interested if you feel the same as me that Dragon have a habit of putting the gate connections sometimes in the wrong spot.......in joint lines, and visible locations etc. The springs for example, on my P4's mud flaps. The gate mark is the on the side visible and on the actual spring itself....very difficult to reshape.

That's where Tamiya has the edge so far for me in comparison.

Anyway.....looking good.....

Simon.

Lovely smooth brush painting there!

Bet you aren't looking forward to sanding the seams on the tyres :D

Hi mahavelona and thank you for your comments.

With regards the wheels - I had already done that before getting the paint on!

Hi sampanzer and thank you for your comments. With regards the fewer parts - there are some advantages to my simplified Dragon (Platz) kit!

Hi Simon. I totally agree - Dragon do have a habit of picking, what seems, obvious places NOT to put sprue gate joints and placing them exactly in the worst possible places. Some are okay but then others - are central to where they will be clearly visible. Very odd. You would think the designers would be able to pick less visible locations. There often seems, to me, to more suitable places for the joints on the back of the parts. Hey ho.

I did not know that brand of Dragon + Platz, is it something special?

Nice progress, coming along nicely,..

Cheers Stix :santa:

Hi Francis and thank you for your comments. I think Platz are a distributor for Dragon in some countries and they had a range called "Girls Und Panzer" which included female cartoon character crews. I think Dragon provided the tanks which they are now releasing separately without the figures - like this one I'm making.

Over the past week, during the evenings, I have been doing some building of the various sub structures. With the lower hull completed last weekend I decided to do the upper hull next - so various parts have been assembled:

46417914121_0bd391c0f0_b.jpg

Same with the turret:

46417913641_64ef48b4fe_b.jpg

The fenders were cut away from the sprues but I left some attached so have something to hold while painting:

46417913481_fba9b63d42_b.jpg

I also cut a lot of the other parts off the sprues - again leaving some that can hold while painting:

I had originally planned to add the glacis later but decided it may be easier to do now:

46417913091_67447dfe91_b.jpg

With all the above bits ready - I decided yesterday to start painting. I'm fairly certain a few modellers, judging by some of their comments, are convinced I do spray my kits and just claim to brush paint them - so I decided to take a couple of photos part way through the process:

46380753152_375dae9b40_b.jpg

46380753282_4e0008b8a7_b.jpg

I'm not keen on stopping part way through (the paint is drying and I need to be in control of that!) but I thought some people might find it useful to see what it looks like part done.

....amd this is what it looks like with a couple of coats on:

Some of the other parts:

32559281418_05439d7749_b.jpg

One of the other parts to go on still is the spare tracks for the front of the hull. Unfortunately the guide horns are solid - unlike the DS tracks for this kit:

46431179141_89c9b9c2c3_b.jpg

If you have seen the way I take my photos - I tend to take them low down and quite close. To me - these solid guide horns are going to stand out too much. So first I decided to drill them out:

45708320554_5584618f46_b.jpg

And then I spent a bit of time filing, carving and sanding them:

31491739107_826f3aaf0d_b.jpg

They are not perfect but I think they will still look better.

More tomorrow I hope.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Kind regards,

Stix

Looks fantastic Stix, it's all coming together nicely. I like the attention to detail on the spare track links, it's suprising that Dragon didn't put the correct ones in the box.

Hi Stix,

Good progress and all looking exceptionally neat and tidy. Nice bit of mod on the tracks. You'll soon be scratchbuilding shurtzen and added armour.

As for your 'proof' of using a brush in those mid-stage photos,  I had to laugh. I KNOW you actually used an airbrush to replicate those brushstrokes.

You can fool some of the people some of the time.....😆

Hi Ozzy and thank you for your comments.  Yeah - I had to do a check just to make sure the DS tracks had hollow guide horns - which they did. I was surprised too that Dragon hadn't made the guide horns hollow on the spare tracks to match.

For a reduced parts kit it looks excellent stix, your painting is stunning as usual I like your touch on the tracks, quality!

Hi Glynn and thank you for your comments. I have to say it is a very nicely detailed kit and seems to go together well so far - although, as you'll see below, there's still a lot to be assembled.

Hi Badder and thank you for your comments. Although I did that bit on the tracks I'm not planning too much in the way of modifications on this one. I'm now thinking I might make something else as well for the GB - possibly in 1/48 although I found a 1/35 kit I'd forgotten I'd bought a while back.. I'll have to see how quickly I get this project finished.

I have been working on this project over the past few days but not had time to sort out updates.

First job, earlier in the week, was to paint a very thinned Revell Gunship Grey wash over everything painted so far:

44627426740_4d79abda30_b.jpg

When the Gunship Grey wash was fully dry I did a targeted wash of Revell's Anthracite in and around the detail using a fine pointed brush. Then, everything was dry-brushed with Revell's Gunship Grey and then with Revell's Light Grey:

Next up will be adding the decals and then starting the weathering on the lower hull sides,

Really nice work as usual Stix.

The washes and drybrushing have worked a treat as the detail stands out nicely.

Here you are close to final assembly and I haven't even started yet!

Hi Craig and thank you for your comments. With regards progress - let's not forget we are only at the end of the second week of the GB so you still have two and a half months to work on yours. I have got on quite well with mine partly due to the holidays and the fact that it's a simplified Dragon kit.

Thank you very much mahavelona.

This morning I got the few decals applied - the decals are a little thick and seem a bit fragile. I broke two just getting them into place. Once sealed on with matt varnish they looked okay:

Hi Francis. Thank you for your comments and yes, the holiday period has been great for working on this build - with the result that I've got further on with it than I thought I would.

Wow!

Just caught up with your build Stix, great brush work as ever. Your Panzer is coming along very nicely indeed.

Cheers Greg 😁

Hi Greg and thank you very much!

Change of plan from yesterday - I decided today to work on painting and weathering some of the bits and pieces that still need to be added later. The reason for me doing these rather than the weathering on the sides of the lower hull was because I'm still not too sure what I want the overall weathering to look like eventually.

Tomorrow I may try and do the weathering on the lower hull sides, we'll see.....

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Stix
