corsaircorp
Hello Dears, It's a long time now that I think about this thread ! A way to share some bits of history with you and a way to bring some unknown spot into your home by the magic of this forum ! I just hope that it would be interesting for anyone. Do not hesitate to comment or ask for more ! I will feed the thread as frequently as I can ! In between my (Too numerous) builds !! First one ! It's situated on the bank of the river Meuse, between Hastière (Belgium) and Givet (France) The place is very a very scenic one. Originally, The tank was a Sherman Jumbo, but there has been an exchange... The Jumbo is now in Bastogne's museum, and it has been replaced by this one in the '70. The tank has been repainted and a bit restored 2 years ago ! Sorry, the CC van is visible... The plynth is in pink marble, usual in our region... And it read.. A tribute To the GI's from 2nd and 3rd Batalion of the 60th Infantry Regiment of the 9th Infantry Division Of the 1st US Army Under the orders of Maj Gen J. Lawton Collins Here at the dawn of the 5th of September 1944 They crossed the river Meuse Under ennemy fire, helped by a handfull volunteers from Hastière After 2 days of fierce combat facing the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich" Their courage and abnegation give us back our liberty May their sacrifice will never be done in vain ! Location; On RN96 at the entry of Heer Agimont ! I'll try to put the right location, that way, if you ever paid us a visit, you can easily spot it !! Of interest, Elements of that same "Das Reich" has slowed american advance in the village where I'm currently living The fight in Neuville lasted for one full day. Here we are, the next one is almost ready Thank for watching Corsaircorp Edited December 5, 2018 by corsaircorp correction 19

spitfire
That would certainly be a surprise if you did not know it is there, it's great that the courage and sacrifice of the soldiers and volunteers is remembered in such a grand way. corsaircorp
Hello Dears, It has been a surprise from SWMBO ! We get for a dog walk at 12 kms from home to find this !! These are German guns from WWI, they stayed there since 1918 Hide away from the germans in WW II and back at this place in late '40... It was alas left to rot there, but in 2013, a bunch of great guys started to restore it for the centenial of the armistice ! It mean, cleaning up the whole thing, then protecting it Create brand new wheels copied from such an original gun exposed in armies museum in Bruxelles ! One of these guns is older since it still bear the arms of Whillelm II, it date it before WW I Since in the war production, such niceties were no longer realised ! Sirius appreciated the spot ! Now a bit of a walkaround ! A photobomb from Nokya ! Now the older of the 2 The one who found it and share with me, my beloved wife for almost 19 years now And one of these artist view that Sylvia is enjoying ! well, one can see it in Vierves sur Viroin, it's a bit out of the village on the RN 99 ! Hope that you still enjoy this ! Sincerely. CC
corsaircorp
Hello Dears, This one can maybe be a special one... @Heather Kay, here are the pics I was talking about Mooooonth ago ! It is located in a tiny cimetery near Florennes. It's the grave of the Lieutenant Henry De Rohan-Chabot, killed in the battle of Belgium, soon to be battle of France. The propeller blades came from his MS-406 Well, I know it's not really funny, but I think that it's worth of interest... To me, it is, but I hope that I did'nt disturb anybody ! Have a great modelling Week end ! Sincerely. CC
Duncan B
Wonderful to see the efforts of those who fought for freedom still being remembered. I wonder how people go about hiding 2 artillery pieces from occupying forces for the duration of a war without them being discovered? Very brave thing to do I suppose too. Thanks for posting these photos. Duncan B 3

corsaircorp
Hello Dears, Here I'm again... Today, While working, I get in a tiny village, not far from my home... The name of the place is Soumoy, A mere 50 houses... But, by the way, I pass by the graveyard and noticed a tiny green sign. I stopped and have a closer look. I saw the 6 sand stones, I thinked about the crew of a bomber, but no, not this time. One officer and five sappers, Killed on the 3rd of December 1918... They surely were disarming unexploded ammos or mines... I will search if I can find some more explanations... That saddened me a lot, Who knows ? Some of them have maybe survived the four years of war... To be killed one month after the end of the war... Take care of you and yours !! Sincerely. davecov
Very sad indeed, especially as the war is over. I found out this information. It is thought that they were conducting Battlefield Clearance Work and salvaged German ammunition exploded, killing all six. Dave 2
corsaircorp
Hello Dears, Years ago, I participate in the searches for ED800, the Lancaster that crashed in this tiny village. The ties in between the Florennes AB and the village of Yves Gomezée are clearly showed here !! Nice decoration for a roundabout is'nt it ?? Happy new year to you all !! Sincerely. corsaircorp
Hello Dears, After all, I'll include some other kind of interesting spots, even if these are sad one... After a discussion with a vet, he told me with some reason that, these spots a worth of interest for eventual relatives.. The Pics are from my good lady and her friend Brigitte. They both love walks in the woods, and she bring me back this... Seemingly, The Stirling crashed just behind it read.. In Memoriam To the crew of a Striling bomber from XV Bomber Squadron of the Royal air force Shot down here on the night 10 to 11th of August 1943 They were back from a mission over Germany Sgt Pilot A.L Lewis flight Eng Sgt S.F Evans Bomber Sgt F.P. Poole gunner Sgt R.J. Porstmouth Now there is surely a connection between someone in the vicinity Because of this... It read Sgt Evans is reunited with his wife Dorothy after 57 years... That's quite moving !! Since the Sqdn crest has been blowed out by the wind Sylvia hanged it on a nearby tree. More will follow soon I'll make some researches.. Sincerely. corsaircorp
Hello Dears, Wifey have a sort of sixth sense to find nice hotels when we get abroad... See... That's the room... And for a really good price, no more than the average... One can think, it's not the place to show pics of an hotel..... But you know me now.... There's always something lying behind... I show you the building now... The eagle eyed among you can already understand .... The place is really quiet today, but years ago, can you imagine that same place with Wyllis Jeep and GMC swarming around ??? So, I thank my good wife for that and her patience... A few kilometers apart I found a brand new museum, opened in 2018... In fact, it's a private collection and REALLY gents, that's worth a visit... http://www.mhm44.be/information/ This new museum is just beside this big cat.... Sooo, I hope that I did'nt disturb too much with all these places... I still have some to show up... Stay safe Gents !! Sincerely. CC
corsaircorp
Hello Gents, Sorry, I can't show you the other Panther in Houffalize.... Here's the reason.... Nearly 2 years huh ??? Some parts have been sent in Germany for refurbishing.... What I fear the most is that once restored, the Panther will not make it back here Well, I have one more reason to pay a visit to Bastogne.... I hope though that this one will compensate a bit.... This one is in Laroche en Ardenne... The village has been leveled up by aerial bombing in order to create a stop gap in December 44 See you later Gents !! Sincerely. stevehnz
Thanks CC, that is very moving. It will now likely serve as a subject for the Airfix Stirling I have squirreled away, it was always going to be a 75 sqn machine. Steve.

corsaircorp
Hello Gents !! I had to go in Liege (Lüttich) for my son.... There are a lot of work in progress on the road.... Very busy in linking potholes Methink.... But, all went well and I had an hour to spend.... So, I stopped at Neuville en Condroz for the first time... That's really impressive, I used to get in Colleville (Normandy) or Diekirch (Luxembourg) Knowing that this cemetery is for the aviators and the battle of the Bulge.... It left speechless.... There are even USN service men in there... These panels are in the chapel... It's huge... I mean Huge the models aircrafts are something like 1/48 ones... I hope that I did'nt disturb with all these memorials. Have a great week end. Sincerely. CC
