Roman Schilhart
Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is my 1/72 Italeri Macchi 205 from 1a Squadrilla, 1. Gruppo Caccia based at Campoformido in February 1944. Decal markings from the box. I painted the smoke-ring camo with Gunze/Mr,.Hobby acrylics using LF Vinyl masks (M7213). These masks fit well on plain surfaces, but not on curvatures (such as the wing/fuselage joint). Some touch-ups were neccessary. I added MPM seatbelts and True Details resin wheels. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel of IGM Cars & Bikes. Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. The model will be on display for "Bella Italia", a special exhibition on Italian technical designs at GoModelling Vienna in 2019. Kind regards, Roman Edited December 2, 2018 by Roman Schilhart
Baldy
That looks nice - the scheme looks a nightmare to paint - particularly in 1/72! Well done! I bet your eyes are still sore! Cheers Malcolm
Mark Joyce
Beautifully painted and weathered, Roman! The spinner and smoke rings look fabulous. Your model will be an excellent addition to next year's display. I was unaware there are masks for painting the smoke rings, but I don't have that 72nd scale kit. I have the Hasegawa 205 in 48th scale with smoke ring decals by Mike Grant. If those masks are available in 48th scale as well I might need to give them a try, even with the issues you had on the curved surfaces. Cheers, Mark

Cheers Libor Thank you Libor!!! Unfortunately, I slightly misplaced the flats of the wheels. I only realized when looking at the photographs. The model has been sent back to the workbench for corrections!
Redboost
That could be easily corrected I guess. I battle with the same on each model of mine 🙂 Cheers Libor

Luis Alfonso
Hi My Friend Roman!!! Congratulations!!! Think we have another masterpiece here from RomanSpecial Projects Works!!! I like the way you have handled the bird's camouflage, like a huge lot the weathering and details in this bird. Anyway, any fixings you will have to do think won't be too much difficult, so anyway even with mishaps (as you said), it does not detract from the effort and the courage to enter into a very peculiar scheme that many of us would like to imitate. It would have been nice if you could share a tutorial dealing with that job, watching this out of series for sure encourage us to think seriously go for a model like the one you present here. Maybe you can share interiorities of this camouflage, peculiarities of use, color variants and perhaps other types of aircraft where it was used. I think you're going to be a great animator at Bella Italia in 2019. Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Luis Alfonso

This is the product I used: https://www.lfmodels.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1699 The LF masks are cut from vinyl and come in segments, such as the left wing, right wing, left fuselage side and right side. They do adhere to plain surfaces very well. Things are more difficult on rounded surfaces, such as the wing/fuselage joint or the aft fuselage. I painted step-by-step, letting the paint dry in between, and masking off the remaining sections to avoid overspray: Some corrections were done using Uhu Tac blobs.

Thank you very much for sharing your nice discoveries, for sure more than one will replicate your great job here showed, and it will be a pleasure to try make it hoping the result will be nicer as yours!!! I was wondering if this paint scheme could be used on another Italian aircraft and if it was only confined to this colors used by yours here??? Cheers, Luis Alfonso.
