welcome along with you'r second build, a Corsair this time, can't have too many of them in a build.

I don't know about the markings though, that squadron operated in the Solomon Islands, which is just outside the eligible range of this GB. The FAA and RNZAF were big uses of this aircraft and both are fine for this GB. Hopefully this doesn't put a stop to the build.

Hi rich.. I should of read the rules properly! Doh!

Anyway no bother, i am planning to purchase xtradecal sheet X72209 and model RNZAF NZ5632 ''Kathleen'' from that sheet.. I think this is eligible?

Only thing is i have painted my pilot in USMC colours but i think the RNZAF uniform may be close 🤔  I suppose i could always poke my brush into the *just joined fuselage and make some modifications? 😂🤣

Cheers chaps!

RNZAF Aircrew in the forward operational areas wore USN/USMC issue

flight gear as in the photo below, so your pilot will be fine

Bear in mind NZ5632 is a FG-1D (which flew in the Pacific Theatre), which wore overall

Glossy Sea Blue with RNZAF Pacific Roundel - You should be able to build this from the

decal sheet roundels and serial number.

NZ5632 Only served from June 1945, so won't be overly weathered

NZ5632 as "Kathleen" only wore this,  in Japan post WWII as part of the J Force

occupation

Alan thanks for the help chap :)

Though i would consider myself a ww2 aviation fan i i know very little of aviation in the pacific theatre!

Im presuming NZ5632 is just eligible for the GB, If not on the same hannants sheet we also have NZ5272/NZ5307  No.1 Servicing Unit Guadalcanal 1944

Im guessing i could do either NZ5272/NZ5307 as a failsafe!

Cheers :P

She was in theatre by VJ day but would only be Garrison Duties

One of the reasons she was chosen for J Force was she had little wear.

One of the other Corsairs on the sheet will do too

Getting there and determined to finish this and my zero for the 30th!

Here is my qaundary though lads.. I have put the paint down for corsair f4u-1a NZ5272/NZ5307 but i have only just realized that the airfix kit is a corsair f4u-1d

What are the differences between these two is it just the bomb racks?

Also should i be that concerned considering the airfix kit is BEYOND :P spartan and is lacking exhausts, interior detail etc.

Cheers!

In 1/72, I wouldn't be too concerned about the kit being

a 1D. The under wing hard points don't need to be added

(if the kit has them). The only other issue might be the Propeller

blades if for a late F4U-1D (wider type).

Looks good otherwise

The canopy on the 1A had the horizontal support beams.

HI Dennis,

I keep forgetting that not all F4U-1D model kits have  also the canopy

cross frame like the 1A's- Many if not all of the early F4U-1D's received

by the RNZAF also had the canopy cross frame..

If Degsye39 has the later canopy, sans cross frame, he can add it on

Later F4U-1D's/FG-1D's flown by RNZAF had full blown canopy

I’ll take your word on that. You are more knowledgable about the RNZAF in WW2. I have added this info to my subject files. 👍

Hi Dennis,

The RNZAF F4U-1D's were a little different to their USN/USMC counterparts in that

they carried the plumbing, but never carried the under wing rocket stubs either.

FG-1D's did though

The accompanying photo link is of NZ5485 (Bu. No. 57473) one of the early 1D's, you can  clearly see

the canopy cross frame these 1D's had

NZ5485 RNZAF F4U-1D

as Alan mentioned the differences are relatively minor and for the most part you can get away with living everything as is.

These early Airfix kits were quite basic interior, though the pilot looks to be one of the more modern types. You're nearly there so push on and keep up the good work!

I was wondering Alan if there was any mix-n-matching with the canopy's on the different models, if a canopy was damaged or an aircraft was used for spares?

Almost done with this one finally nailed the winsor and newton galeria matt.. turns out all that i needed was a powered stirring device to get it really mixed with some flow improver (bizarrely the tub says to shake gently?! )

Best get the prop on and the radio mast and the rest of it! ;)

Thanks alan i actually started to paint the corsair humbrol 15 for the glossy sea blue at first! :o

Then i wisely did a little research and ended up using the paints below

IMG-1442.jpg

These rusty little 17p tins went on a dream! good old humbrol.. Crusty corroded old tins that i had to emery paper for a while (paint was fine in every tin!) i bought 300 :o it was tiresome im afraid!

colors used are humbrol 181,144,134
