JOCKNEY Posted November 25, 2018 Share Posted November 25, 2018 This is another, very old kit that I have had for so long I can't remember buying it. picture from Scalemates Its the Revell kit from a long time ago, I made a start on the cockpit and then seem to have put it away and forgotten about it. I will post the pictures later on, just to show it's well under the 25% rule. If this goes well I have another kit I would like to do in this GB, but that's for another day. dogsbody Posted November 26, 2018 Share Posted November 26, 2018 I just took a look at one of my 2 kits and it's not quite as bad as I thought. only a bit of flash here and there and the fuselage isn't warped at all. It got me back in the hobby when my wife was pregnant with our first daughter. Built about twenty BOB etc kits back then. Legend has it that the escort to a Russian convoy once signalled a shadowing Condor, who had been circling them for some time, "You are making us dizzy. Could you please fly the other way round." Apparently, the Germans acknowledged the signal, then did indeed change direction. I'm not sure the colour of the interior is right, so any help in that department appreciated. Also does anyone know what colour to paint the bombs and bomb bay. There are 2 sizes of bombs, littlest ones inside the bomb bay and larger ones for under the wings. I appear to have lost both the flight crew members and the half crew member for the very aerodynamic front turret ! So rather than spending ages trying to find replacements I'll be building it without a crew. Finally I couldn't help but notice the instructions say they were printed in Cranbourne Road, Potters Bar, as my mum now lives in Potters Bar, does anyone know how a kit made in German, I assume had instructions printed in the UK ? cheers Pat 7 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Import duties in those days were such that it would be cheaper to make them here, also exchange control on paying for things in dollars! I think it meant that only something like hire of the moulds would be dollars, not the finished products which i think would also be taxed higher. This was the days when having kids with you on a foreign holiday was a bonus for those affluent enough as each person could only take £30 out of the country. Everydays a school day I also trial fitted the 2 fuselage halves last night and there must be a problem with the fitting of the cockpit, so it will have to be removed, which provides an opportunity to correct the painting of it. So Condors were manufactured in Potters Bar, then no doubt shipped to the Motherland by U-Boot. Damn! Potters Bar of all places! To answer (badly, I am sure) your question, the cockpit should be OK in RLM 66 and the bombs should not be far off in RLM 02. Not black, whatever you do! Your kit does not appear to be warped, which would be a bonus! I had to put braising rods in the wings of my Airfix B-24J to stop them looking like a glider during a sharp pull up... Yes I believe there is a much newer posher version of this kit, but I feel the kit should be as close as possible to the age of the builder. Greg Law Posted December 5, 2018 Share Posted December 5, 2018 I would go with RLM 66. Just make sure it isn't too dark the photos of the real thing look quite light. The rest of the interior should be RLM 02. If I remember right I made an interior for it as well. Hi Ray Having recently finished my Frog / Donetsk Toy Factory Vultee Vengeance II in the Pacific GB, I am afraid to say I have been working on my Coastal Command B-17 in the B-17 GB, so the poor old Condor hasn't had a look in.
