Another RAF Air Sea Rescue Launch

Recommended Posts

Cheers guys, much appreciated. The aerial view does look smart but the side view was a little flat, so last night I added a little more height to the forward part of the bow wave. Still trying to work out what the stern wake is meant to look like as I believe that it's different depending on the number of props being used...we'll see.

With another build done, it's time to take a look at the ASRL

Happy with the base, I fitted the wheel house and the main cabin. Also fitted here are the protective matting to the wheel house.

The masts are fitted together with the forward ammunition lockers and boating hook. At was at this time I noted that I hadn't done the cabin windows and these need to be done before I add anything else. For the windows, I use a good dollop of Formula '560' that will look like glass when dry.

When the windows are done, I will fit the necessary parts that are required for the aerial (yet to be done) and rigging.

Did you say you'd sacrificed your bedding for this

Some-one's bedding anyhow. The sacrifices one has to make in the pursuit of modeling. But I think it looks very good, especially the aerial shots. Regards, Jeff.

Hmmm I wonder if Stuart could crochet you some fenders?

Would that be Ushui elastic thread, looking the part Stuart

Never crocheted in my life, let alone fenders. I haven't looked into fenders for my tug...when I get back to it. Yes Kev, Uschi standard elastic thread.

The Uschi thread is fabulous stuff. It looks a bit expensive in the (very cheap looking packet) but the reel probably holds many years worth of very exquisite and strong rigging thread that takes kindly to a lot of glues, particularly CA.

Definitely my "Go to" for fine rigging!

Your rigging does look spot on stuart,  the whole scene looks great ,I'm interested in the ushi rigging,  for  couple of  future builds , must get a bit more serious,  ( i used mrs hewys knicker elastic thread on the steamer, (although not from her knickers, but from a reel in her sowing box)

Will have to have a decent look at Telford.

As much I would like to oblige, I don't think that that will happen. I've still to make the the cargo nets and those bloody aerials, miracles do happen though.

I think my scarf would have too bigger holes in it and not very useful.

It's gotta be done

I wish their was a better alternative. On the upside, it gives me practice for making ratlines.

That netting looks pretty complex. I don't think I'd have the patience for that.

Not complex at all, it's quite therapeutic actually. Besides, when you dust off that 'Bounty' from that place of shame, this 'knitting' will come in handy.

Anyways, a little further along...

Turrets on, dingy on, middle vents on, ammo lockers on, stanchions and tall metal thing on. Also done another eight rows of knitting on my cargo net.
