??? Nice little figures, are these whifs or did the Northern forces employ mercenaries? Its not a part of history I know much about.

Steve.

Thanks Steve,I only bought these figures because I liked the colours and the uniforms, the info that came with the kit says American Civil War Zouaves 1861-1865,the great feats of the French Zouaves during the Crimean War inspired American volunteers to form Zouave regiments and companies. This became a craze and over 50 regiments were created during the War,mostly in the North but a few in the South. Not all units captured the true look of the French Zouaves but here I have painted the First lot are Federal Zouaves 165th and the last lot are Confederate Zouaves with variant uniforms,Hope this helps and I'm sure there are others out there that know more,Cheers.

Great job Jim,i'd never heard of them until now and looking at their trousers it's the last thing i'd expect to see in the ACW but wouldn't look out of place on a 17th century pirate ship....

Thanks Vince,I must agree with you.The colours is what caught my eye when I first saw them, and the kind of baggy pantaloons,I have to confess the pinstriping may  have been a lot thinner,( my eye and hand coodination don't work together affectively any more)but if you don't tell anyone I won't 😉,Cheers.
