Cameron Lynch
Working on a Platz 1/144 C-46 and need to replicate an antenna. It's above the cockpit and looks almost like a set of bicycle handlebars. Best case, I can find something similar that will work. Worst case I need better photos that I can use to scratch a new one. Any help IDing the antenna or finding better photos (top view?) would be tremendous.
Wez
It's a VOR/ILS localiser aerial, the one that detects the fly left/right signal, it's quite common to see these vee shaped ones, you'd need to get a better picture. Big old airframe repair there.
Britman
I think that panel may be reinforcement against ice being thrown from the props. They are on many prop jobs with such panels, though not too many so obvious. Keith.
Cameron Lynch
Thanks for the help guys. I think I've ID'd the specific antenna and found a couple of good pics of it. Best wishes! Cameron
rob Lyttle
Hi @Cameron Lynch I guess you're sorted on this.... But here is a detail drawing from the Williams Bros kit instructions, (None are supplied with the kit!) They make the point that antenna fittings to the C46 was hugely variable, but that one 2nd from the right, is usually there on the cockpit roof. And although the drawing shows the mounting point cut at an angle, it does seem to be mounted fairly perpendicular on the roof and sloping down "towards the runway". You doing a WIP on this? I'd love to set how you get on. Edited November 28, 2018 by rob Lyttle extra pic
