Nikolay Polyakov Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 Hello friends! 👋 After the long and complex Voodoo build, I decided to build something less-detailed - just for a rest... So, I chose the classic Monogram kit (copyrighted by 1977), repacked by Revell in 2005: First time I sawed this kit in 1994 when my friend’s brother built it, and I was impressed by the quality of the mouldings. Some years ago I bought it (just to have, you know 😋) and stashed; now its time! The sprue with fuselage halves: The roof, the floor and very nice engine: The crew looks good, very good for this scale: The (not so visible) clear parts and armament: This time I started the build from a little subassemblies for simplifying the (very enjoyable, I must say) process: I love the quality of a plastic, surface details and its color! Thanks for watching 😺 7
bbudde Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 Hello I Will look at this . I still love these old Monogram kits. Very detailed usually good / fair fit. And they won't have to hide behind Tamiya and co. I had one UH-1as a kid but it was much bigger ; so I guess it was 1:24 and I'm not sure , if it was Revell or Monogram. And I loved to play with it. Cheers 1
Nikolay Polyakov Posted November 22, 2018 Author Posted November 22, 2018 (edited) Hello @bbudde! Yes, the fit is excellent for the kit of its age. And it’s has a charm. The only disadvantage is an excessive amount of flash, so a lot of sanding required. Cheers! Edited November 22, 2018 by Nikolay Polyakov 2
Nikolay Polyakov Posted November 25, 2018 Author Posted November 25, 2018 Hello guys! Nothing interesting to show you yet, just some glueing: I sanded seams on an engine and it’s ready for a painting: I was aware of a bad fit, but the dry-fit looks pretty well: And some bad things: I decided to seal the tail inside with an excessive amount of the glue, but it was a bad move - the tail slightly damaged now... OK, I can live with it. Cheers! 😎 4
Ex-FAAWAFU Posted November 25, 2018 Posted November 25, 2018 I recently acquired the Kitty Hawk 1/48 UH-1D (destined to be a RNZAF cab). Following this with interest! 1

Following this with interest! Thanks @Ex-FAAWAFU! I have a Kitty Hawk’s Huey in my stash too, but this time I decided to build this one. All the things went great, but it’s all turned to a never ending sanding 😂 Cheers! 🙃 1
Nikolay Polyakov Posted November 29, 2018 Author Posted November 29, 2018 Hello Britmodellers! 👋 To avoiding the fit issues, I attached the nose before an interior were painted: Finally, the spray work is done: A closer look: It looks well (dry-fitted): I’m not a Revell decals fan, but this time all sets amazing: Thanks for looking! 🙃 7
Nikolay Polyakov Posted December 3, 2018 Author Posted December 3, 2018 Hello friends! 🤝 The build goes on... I installed an internal parts (the cockpit and an engine) into the fuselage: The fit was great, now it’s ready for a semi-gloss coat with an additional wash: Thanks for watching! 😎 6
Nikolay Polyakov Posted December 6, 2018 Author Posted December 6, 2018 Hello guys! 🤝 The doors painted and decaled (not so visible): An interior glued, clear-coated and weathered: The roof windows are tinted with a Clear Green (it was a not so successful experience - needs some practice, I think), the XM-5 turret installed, too: An overall progress for today: Cheers! 🙃 10

AdriaN (MLT) Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 i built this kit in 2007. not a great kit. LOADS of flash and not very good fitting parts. Loads of filler. Brush painted... 1

I have the same opinion since the mid 1990s when I saw it builded, but now it's looks very well for me... I think it's the best «short» Huey in 1/48th scale! 16 hours ago, AdriaN (MLT) said: LOADS of flash and not very good fitting parts. The plastic is very thin and a flash caused some issues. When I removed all the flash - believe me - all the parts comes together well 👍 I think the exception is a roof, let’s see... Thanks for your interest! 🤝 Edited December 9, 2018 by Nikolay Polyakov 2
Nikolay Polyakov Posted December 10, 2018 Author Posted December 10, 2018 Hello friends! 🙂 I painted an anti-glare surface, looks well: Also performed some undercarriage works: But stopped... Why don’t use a crew?! These guys are very well moulded for their age: I think I need to paint the crew and put inside a chopper! Actually, I never did it in 1/48th scale and it’s would be my first crew (and a first figure painting) since the late 1990s. Cheers! 😺 6
Nikolay Polyakov Posted December 15, 2018 Author Posted December 15, 2018 Hello Britmodellers! Just to save the time and preserve a mojo I skip the crew painting phase and attached the roof: The stabilizers are in their places, too: An overall progress for today: Thanks for looking! 🙂 5
Mr B Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 This brings back fond memories, built the 1st one as a kid in a monogram box, ended up as a nice crashed diorama.....but built up ok.....tried again....under the Revell boxing........did not finish it, had major issues with the roof.....two years ago, my brother picked up one for me as it was cheap......it’s in the stash ...waiting for the time.....the pilot figures has given me an idea for my current project....thanks your build looks good. Almost there....I guess.....the details are good as with all monogram molds. Awaiting your final review cheers 1

Mine was stashed two years - the first model I have bought after a long hiatus. Yes, the plastic is a bit twisted in some parts and needs some attention. 59 minutes ago, Mr B said: your build looks good. Nikolay Polyakov Posted December 20, 2018 Author Posted December 20, 2018 Hello «Huey» lovers! I filled some suspicious areas with a Liquid Surface Primer: An XM-6 system is assembled and ready for the painting work: The roof area now needs some polish: I think it’s time to apply some paint coats (!): Thanks for watching! 🙃 7
Nikolay Polyakov Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 Hello guys! 🤝 Last night was a very productive and I sprayed the Huey fuselage and some little bits. The roof area looks good and smooth: The belly is not so good, but acceptable: The stabilizers is shining: The forward fuselage part with an XM-5: Also I sprayed a rotor blades and machine guns: The same, a bit closer look: An overall progress for this morning: Next will be the white stripes on a main rotor blades, some touch-ups and decaling. Cheers! 😺 3
Nikolay Polyakov Posted December 26, 2018 Author Posted December 26, 2018 Hello friends! 😉 Today I put the decals on: Just a few tweaks and I’ll ready for a clear coat: The tail rotor attached and the main rotor blades are masked for the additional painting: The mojo is gone with this build, hope I finish her soon... Cheers! 😎 4
f111guru Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 Nikolay, Wonderful start and progress on your UH-1 build. Over the years I've built many of these and have one on display at Albuquerque's Sunport Air terminal. Its dressed in a post HAL-3 configuration without the guns and rocket pods. In my possession I have 6 or more that will eventually or at least 2 will end up on a scratchbuilt 1/48th scale LST Ron VanDerwarker 2
