Kitty Hawk 1/48 F-101 A/C «Voodoo»

Recommended Posts

Hello Britmodellers! 👏

Finally, the work is done. There are so many discussions over the Net about this kit, but I’d like to say that the kit is well-designed and great. With a help of my friends here, now I can post the final results. Thanks 🤝

So, the starboard side:

The port side:

The belly:

I spent a lot of time on reshaping an intakes, as the Kitty Hawk provides us the wrong ones:

The kit parts are great itself, an afterburners looks fantastic:

The landing gear is well-detailed, too:

Even if I placed an actuators wrong, it’s looks nice! Also, the protector lines were scribed and the wheels were slightly «weighted»:

The walk areas decals were cutted and reshaped:

The yellow squadron markings are painted, I decided to not use a decals:

The starboard side drop tank:

The same:

The tail position light was scratch builded from the clear sprue:

The front view:

The canopy with an UHF antenna:

The cockpit details are very nice out of the box and an IFR probe looks interesting:

I think she’s have a great shapes, and the Kitty Hawk properly recreated this:

The Voodoo:

As for me, the kit had its issues, but it was pleasure to build it! Thanks for watching.

Cheers! 😺

It shows what can be done with the kit.

It may be better, I think I’ll get the better results with an RF- or «B» later 🙂

Cheers! 🙃

Oh, I don’t have a Flagon in my stash 😐 I decided between the old 1/48 «Huey» and ICM’s MiG-25PD...

It’s a great idea, Ian Gaskell (@Wee Beastie) here is built one:

Wait a minute--I thought that kit was supposed to be unbuildable!

No, it’s a great kit! As I said before, it just needs some (or a lot of) patience.

Nikolay that looks excellent. Looks like it went together really nicely. Perhaps it is time to look mine out and give it a go. Did you build it in sections as per the instructions?

Cheers

I’m very interested in other Voodoo builds 😋

Yes, I build it in sections, as instructed. It needs a lot of dry-fitting, internal (not an external) sanding; some panels and details must be rounded a bit - and all the stuff will fit! Sure thing, I’m gladly answer your questions!

There is a WIP thread, if you’re interested:

Cheers! 😎

No doubt about it, the F-101 is a classy looking aircraft and your model certainly does it justice!:goodjob:

Thanks Mike! You’re right, the Kitty Hawk kit looks like a real thing, unlike other kits (as for me, except the Monogram’s).

A fearsome bird to fly, by some accounts, but definitely a classy looking aircraft.

You can certainly see where the F4 Phantom got her looks from!

I was delighted to read that the test pilot who took her straight through the sound barrier was one Robert C Little!

Great result Nikolay.

Although you didn't do a little macho-man figure standing by a ladder!!

It was a very educational build, I must say. But I love the final results!

Thanks for all your comments, my friends! 🤝
