F 22 Raptor Revell 1/72 pick me up...hopefully?

Recommended Posts

Well after the disaster of the Me 109 I went to the stash and found this little baby.

Box 1

I purchased this from Modelzone for a dirt cheap price,

Box 2

Four runners in greyish plastic.

Runner 1

Runner 2

Runner 3

Runner 4

And a tinted canopy .

Clear 1

Finally the decals.

Decals 1

A nice selection of decals for both plane and stores too.

I will decide which one I am doing towards the end.

I am off now to relax before tackling this build in a more controlled manner.

All comments welcome.

I have this same kit along with the Eduard Big Ed set, and some resin exhausts and cockpit. Looking forward to your build, I hope it goes together well. Any thoughts yet on how you'd like to duplicate that odd metallic sheen to the greys?

Cheers,

Bill

I honestly don`t know Bill, although I am toying with the idea of using Alcads for the exhausts areas.

The Revell colour cal outs is for 50 shades of Grey LOL.

Is Modelzone still a thing? I thought they had gone bankrupt.

What did exactly happen to the Bf 109 that made you throw it away?

Modelzone went down mate, but I made a few purchases before they did.

The 109 was screwed, all the front end was out, I just had enough to be honest.

I had a bad day, and it was the final straw.

Needless to say, in future I will count to ten.

Well, I made a start.

She is big, compared to the Martlet I finished recently .

Big...

But there is a lot of ejector pin marks to get rid of though.

EJP 1

Added the controls to the pit before priming/painting.

But the seat has an annoying gap at the top to sort out.

It lined up OK but why this happened I don`t know, time for some card/filler.

PIT SEAT 1

Wheels and tanks next, still need to clean the wheels up but the tanks look OK.

Tanks and wheels

I am taking time with this one, as I don`t want any more repeats of what happened to the Me 109...

Caution's paying off, so far!

Those ejector pin marks are a royal PITA, aren't they? :frantic:

And she IS big!

Ciao

Yep she sure is Giemme, but not that many parts in all really. 116 to be exact, or that is what is written on the box...

Sorry for the tardiness but life...

Update.

Although I have been busy in life, I got this lot ready for priming.

RFP 1

RFP 2

Hopefully I will be able to post some more on the weekend.

It looks a very smooth paint job to me, Simon  And the kit has some lovely details too - refreshing build, so far

Despite the kit's minor faults it seems a nice detail kit of a modern aircraft

Hacker

Thanks, the kit has some good details but those ejector pin marks let it down, see below.

Well I did not get any thing done over the weekend due to life getting in the way.

But looking through bits to do I found these.

EJP 2

EJP 3

Yep the dreaded ejector pins have arisen plus sink marks too, come on Revell , you could do better here.

Then looking through the pit I noticed that the throttles? had gone AWOL.

MT 1

Sorry about the pic.

And here is the bit to make.

MT 2

Another tiny bit to scratch I suppose.

Anyhow folks, I hope to be able to give a better update during the week.

Simon, (Slightly miffed).

Hi folks, I am really sorry for not posting recently, but life has thrown in a few curve balls, so to speak.

I had a notification from the hospital that I was to have a Cardio Ablation done on the 20th Dec, so I had to get a lot of things done before then.

The procedure failed, leaving me in AF still.

This has meant that I have had to end my Part-time job as a sound engineer.

And at the beginning of the month, my wife had to have an Abscess drained from a place you don`t want it be.

That was OK but the nurse made a mistake on the first day of dressing changing so a second op had to be done.

Needless to say, I have been busy else where to even touch the bench.

But before the Op, I did manage this.

Heavy filler 1

Lots of Green Squadron on the outsides.

Heavy filler 3

Once rubbed down it did not look that bad, we will see under some Primer.

I have decided too, close the main and side weapons bays , to many ejector pin marks visible.

Shame but I have to be realistic about my skills.

Anyhow folks I will be off now to catch up on what else is happening here on BM.

All comments welcome,

Simon.

Thanks mate, Rose is well on the mend now, with maybe one or two more dressing changes before it can be left to itself.

I am fine, just awaiting a date for a Cardio Inversion this time.

In and out in 4 hours, hopefully.

Nice looking bird. Glad to see you’re getting the better of pin marks. Sorry to hear about your and your better half’s troubles. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. I’ll tag Ali g for this on if that’s ok.

All the best kid.

Thanks Johnny, all is a bit better for now, one can only hope that it keeps going the right way.

Anyhow, it`s been over three months since I have posted anything new on this build.

Well, I am proud to announce that I finally got on the bench.....

Not a great deal of time, for now but actual bench time.

First up was the exhaust tunnels.

Join seam.

EX 1

OK, out with my trust filler.

EX 2

I left that to dry before a a few swipes of a rat tail file should hopefully hide them.

While at it, the inlet tunnels received the same sort of treatment.

EJP 4

EJP 5

While they are drying I cut some masks for the exhausts  .

IM 1

And in place.

IM 2

I have also started painting the seat as well.

Time for a coffee then maybe a bit more.
