Mitch K
Latest two I've started from Footsore, Bors (with the beard and the axe) and Gawain (with the leather jerkin over his mail and sword in hand). So far it's just blocked colour for most of the major parts, but I'll move on to shading/highlighting shortly.
thorfinn
Even half-completed, they already look most impressive!
Mitch K
Gawain, with his clothes/armour etc done but the hands and face just blocked in: And again, with the details of the hands and face done: I might just "tweak" the eyes a little down the line. Bors, with his clothing and armour done:
Mitch K
Here's Gawain again, following slight adjustment to the eyes: I've got Bors's hair largely done. Hands and face next.
Mitch K
The basing is Milliput, with a coat of dark brown to keep everything tidy. Next step is some texture, provided by sharp or soft sand applied over PVA. The brown paint ensures no see-through. Shields for these two, done with home-made decals. Somebody like Little Big Men Studios https://www.littlebigmenstudios.com/ will sell you some lovely ones, and if you want a large set they're well worth considering. My well-thumbed copy of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight gives Gawain's arms as a gold/yellow pentacle on a red field (with plenty of detail, text citations and referenced supporting information too) so that's good enough for me. Bors has three red bars on his shield (Mallory). I'll wash and weather these a bit and in the case of Bors add a leather rim.
Mitch K
A bit of paint on the bases, to vary the colour, then a coat of matt ahead of the next stage. It's absolutely imperative the varnish is completely dry before proceeding. Static grass and tufts complete the bases. Static grass will attach itself everywhere if the varnish isn't dry. Bors' helmet is a West Wind miniatures spare post-Roman head, hollowed out laboriously with a Dremel.
