As it has disappeared into the vagaries of Win 10 and Postimage I took the shot again

(here again)

P1010062.jpg

for your references of course

However it doesnt even look like that anymore

I didnt like the junctions between clear and solid so...

P1010065.jpg

Off with its windows, port side at least

I intend trying strips of bespoke CD case plastic

I know it responds well to polystyrene glue so...

Watch this space

Later after I come home from 'club' this arvo

Is the original exactly like the new one above?

which means it isnt the original because I did an edit in the thread

I cannot find the original anywhere in the postimg. gallery

Yes the original is just the same as the first one above, sitting below the keyboard, as opposed to the second one above, below that, sitting above the keyboard!

Always like to bring clarity to a thread.

As you will all realise I was hoping it wouldn't come to this

but it has

P1010066.jpg

The window positions have been saved from the original positions and a chunk of CD case clear plastic is being produced to replace the missing bit

The holes were measured up, as well as the windows marked on the plastic. This should be OK

This however looks as if it will be OK

P1010067.jpg

This glazing looks OK to me, we'll see when the nose is ON

Oh bugger

Lost a post again

I have been working on the window slot and have been using eihrsc as well as sihrsc to clean up the very hard CD case plastic

P1010068.jpg

With the piece in the vise I used both to flatten the edges

P1010069.jpg

And open the tapered (inevitably as a result of doing this as a second guess) slot out to parallel

P1010071.jpg

see?

P1010072.jpg

Soon sorted on the day

P1010073.jpg

Soon ready for the glue guy to finish his break and get  some work done

P1010075.jpg

Ah yes here he is

P1010076.jpg

There is a little excess glue down the back of the fuselage which I hope will polish out later*, as you see Humbrol Tube glue rescued from an Airfix Starter kit

This might have been the Gnat**

:)

*I mean at least not before tomorrow, it is Tuesday

Tonight is Toby Carvery night for a change

Yummy

**Must build that one day soon  :)

Sometimes you have to bring 'em out Steve

Guys thanks but...

That piece is now festering away under a coat of Humbrol filler whilst I try to restore the true cross section of the window to roof section

I filed the plastic to the profile, then sanded and buffed it then polished it back to clear

I'll put some pics of that stage in later but this morning is going to be a tough time with files and Micromesh

Wish me luck, I'm going in...

Just catching up Bill. Gosh quite a traumatic course of action, but it's looking really neat. Also lovely reflection of blue sky and a cloud in the glazing. Nice and artistic loike.

Thank you all, your encouragement means a lot

I can now show the stages of my personal cross, hoping for clear windows after this

The clear stuff glued in place needed taking to the level of the rest of the plastic, so I knew the shinyshinyshinyness was not about to last

It didnt

P1010077.jpg

Sihrsc did much work here but the finishing pre-lapped surface was down to my flat needle files

P1010078.jpg

Polishing has been on the orders of the day

P1010082.jpg

We need to be able to see inside, proper like

P1010084.jpg

This experiment showed me that the seats were not firmly enough affixed to the floor, half the seats fell off when I popped it into its space

Nevertheless we have to go on forwards

The fuselage side was masked before polishing could begin so that the edges didnt run curved away from the frames

P1010086.jpg

And the polished windows were masked off from the rest of the model

Now I have to cut away several hundred curved fillet corners so the next phase will be assembly

P1010087.jpg

Happy days huh

It's a lot of work on those side windows Bill but a pleasure to see such damn fine crafting.

Excellent work Bill, neat idea with the crystal CD case and using tube cement. Shame you had to scuff it up but then you saved it again!!!

Stick with it, not to the tube cement...
