jrlx
Dear All, This is my rendering of a Phantom of the Royal Navy, of the 892 Sqd, operating from Ark Royal. It's the original British Phantom Fujimi kit, without positionable flaps and air brakes. I had serious problems with the tail fin decals, which broke under decal solvents and had to replace them (thanks to @Troffa who sent me his spares), and the many stencils had a great tendency to silver. Apart from that, the kit is good and builds well. However, these difficulties made me loose motivation several times and it took me more than three years to finish the model (most of the time it was shelved). The transparency of the canopies also suffered from such a long time under masking tape. Some notable points of the build: Added a Aires PE canopy set and a Master set of brass pitot tube/RAM air inlet/AoA probe Air intake tubing and compressor face simulated with a picture (thanks to @delta7 for the idea) Painted with Gunze and some Tamiya acrylics, Alclad grey primer and metalics Pre-shading: matt black along the panel lines Post-shading: Extra Dark Sea Grey mixed with a bit of white, highly diluted and applied to the centre of the panels Weathering: First pass overall and panel line enhancement: Vallejo acrylic grey wash Second pass, underside only, behind the serial numbers, gear wells and legs and exhaust area: Vallejo acrylic greasy earth wash Third pass: Vallejo black pigments, just on the exhaust area Finishing coat: Alclad semi-matt The WIP can be found here. ArmouredSprue
Very nice model. I'm curious, how did you make the position lights on the wingtips/
jrlx
Thank you very much @ArmouredSprue The position lights were simply painted with transparent red and transparent green. Nothing too elaborate Cheers Jaime

FalkeEins
indeed, great! I pinched your intake picture idea for my own recent build. The kit itself is a bit of a stinker IMHO (had to ditch the decals too), but I guess half-decent for its era and of course the subject rulz!

jrlx
John ( @John D.C. Masters ), Falke ( @FalkeEins ), Pat ( @JOCKNEY ) Thank you very much! You're all too kind! 3 hours ago, FalkeEins said: The kit itself is a bit of a stinker IMHO (had to ditch the decals too), but I guess half-decent for its era and of course the subject rulz! When I bought the kit back in 2015 it was really the best available in 1/72, according to the reviews I read. It built well and the decals were the really bad point. In the meantime Airfix has launched their British Phantoms and I already bought the Royal Navy boxing. It looks very good in the box, with lots of build options. I hope to build it in the future.
