Me 109 E3 Heinz Bar Academy 1/48.

Recommended Posts

Well, while I am waiting for the Jug to dry, I thought I would get on with something else.

So into the stash I delved and pulled this one out.

Simple enough to do, (I think)

BOXTOP

Obligatory box top.

Bits next.

RUNNER 1

RUNNER 2

RUNNER 3

CLEAR BITS

DECALS

Nice of them to supply paint decals but I will not be using them.

On with the show I suppose.

Bits primed and glued.

Me Prime 1

Sorry for the blurred pic there.

Me Prime 2

And now I will have to start spraying some RLM 02 around.

Until then folks.

All comments welcome.

Paint decals are an interesting if slightly bonkers idea.

Mottle camouflage strips would make sense but surely not the wing tops!

Interesting stuff, Simon - I'll join in, if you don't mind

I just hope these "limited edition" decals won't behave like the regular Acadamey ones .... :fight:

Ciao

I did the exact same kit earlier this year. You'll have to sand the lower part of the frontal cockpit's bulkhead in order to get a flush wing/fuselage assembly.

Are you going to paint it with the yellow nose as seen on some profiles?

Luckily those limited edition decals are Cartograf printed.

Outside of the new Tamiya 1/72 Ki-61 doing this. Ive never seen this before.

I must admit, when I purchased this kit I did not expect these decals, although it will help and idiot like me get the camo right, or nearly so anyhow.

Thanks for the heads up on the front bulkhead sir, I will trim before fitting.

And I will go with the kit paint scheme, I don`t want to upset the rivet counters LOL.

Well another quick update.

To save the pita masking the prop, i created this bodge job.

Bodget 1

A bit of stock card/strip to hold the prop axle/gun in place.

Bodget 2

With that done I added the rad and the guns but forgot to take pics.

Finally today I fixed the cowling on.

Cowling on.

Leave to set for now, and see what it`s like in the morning.

Off for tea now, sausage casserole ....

All comments welcome.

Quite some progress there, Simon!

This kit seems to have similar fit issues as the Academy M109 G6 I did a while ago - nothing dramatic, still some job is required.

BTW, you know you're not supposed to fill the seam line on the fuselage, both top and bottom, don't you?

Hi Spookytooth - I'm a bit concerned about how far the MG 17s project forward into the gun troughs but maybe you have yet to glue them in place. My understanding is that the left barrel projects into the trough about 3 mm in 1/48 scale wnd the right barrel about half that. Maybe chck out the instructions and some other references. Thanks Giemme, I suppose it`s to late now concerning the seams .

As for the fit, typical Academy , fits where it touches LOL.

And @Pauls9cb, the destructions were not very clear on the placement so I will cut them back once they are set.

Typical Academy instructions though , vague to say the least.

Well it seems like I made a big error building this kit but what the heck, it is something to past the time with.

Hopefully one day I will get some thing right.

Looking good Simon,

This one appears to be going together quickly. You can fix any of the small flaws if needs be quite easily methinks.

Enjoy the build and keep it going mate.

Cheers Greg

Oh No !

Save that poor innocent little kit...

I sans about tout say that you've done a good job on it.

CC

It`s smashed up in the bin....

The cowling was mis aligned by about  1 mm at least, the guns were too long etc.

I made a complete and utter b**** up of the whole thing.

Never mind though, I have still got that Jug to finish off.

Sorry about this folks but I have had a bad day.

Simon.

Simon - I'm horrified that you've binned it. The MG thing was an easy fix but just looked very strange. We've all suffered from imprecise kit info but that's what Britmodeller's all about. Getting advice to either avoid or correct these errors. I'm reall sorry you decided to bin it nad hope my well-intentioned comments were not the cause. Have another look at it. Maybe it just needs a rethink. Paul.

Paul, it was not your comments mate, nor any one else`s, it was my poor shoddy handy work.

The kit is in many pieces now, not even salvageable.

Needless to say I find this forum a great place with lots of friendly people .

With the Me in the bin, I don`t know what to do next, I may take up knitting LOL.

I will see how I feel.
