Thanks Giorgio and Ben :)

Spaceman and Bill - how CAN you mention sausages and Babe in the same sentence, you beasts! He's so awwwwww... nom nom nom… Gaaah! Sorry Babe, but Suckling Pig is one of my favourites…

Surgery? You want surgery?

Not on the pigs (stop it!) but on the resin.

Bill Navy Bird and I had a brief discussion on this and his chemically expert friends say it's only dangerous before it sets. That said, still worth some water here and there to keep the dust down. These bits had thin connecting bits so came off with a #10a:

… but then it was out with the Dexter for these:

32724116578_ccc9f87450_n.jpg 46546581232_e35a196210_n.jpg

Taking care with the bay sidewalls which are quite thin in places.

Then it was 'follow the instructions' to modify the kit parts. Off with the locators in the wing bit and inside the fuselage:

44780673920_9335e2017a_n.jpg 45874260774_15c8aa4e29_n.jpg

I use a #9 for this - great blade for scraping things off flat surfaces. I dread to think what it's actually designed for.

Then came to a dead stop. The instructions say "…make sure the small tabs coloured red are to the rear":

45874301054_833c70296d_z.jpg

Small tabs? What small tabs? That's where it got cut from the block… have I cut them off, or not cut enough?

I shall ponder…

Wish I'd seen the resin when you examined it first

Before.

😱

Thanks Bill, helpful  *

No tabs that I can see and I've looked, twice.

As for sausages...I have gone food blind after the Christmas binge, no sausages around here.

Thanks Gary :)

A busy weekend for me but visits to the bench resulted in the same outcome; it goes where? But then… How? If I just… nope, that doesn't work either…

What's the problem?

Firstly the Araldite Clear was stopping the rear bulkhead fitting:

46596813682_721228f7f8_z.jpg

Secondly, the front bulkhead caused a big gap (at the bottom in this shot):

46597012402_ff2ea5175f_z.jpg

… caused by the rough molding:

31708119887_a44a1274e2_z.jpg

Note those two slots for later. After sanding the front bulkhead things seemed to fit:

45924974674_81a3b19e7d_z.jpg

So the main parts should fit eh? Well, there's a tab on the bay roof but two slots on the bulkhead:

32775125468_8e8c77b78e_z.jpg

Which Witch is Which?

… and where do the main bits go anyway?

32775149488_bb3884eee8_z.jpg

Gappy or what? But wait, it's going to fit in the kit part between the wings isn't it:

45734903795_e4f987f58b_z.jpg

Yes! I just need to work out how to dry fit the top with the side while holding the bottom front rear back inside bits on the outside.

Or something.

I shall wait for inspiration, hopefully soon…

If only there were some forum member with tentacles who could help hold all those pieces simultaneously for you Ced. :hmmm:

I think I shall be going down the route of shed loads of plastic card with my kits.

Thanks Martian - now there's an idea... :)

This is getting on my nerves a bit - I'm not sure where to start assembly. Grrrr. I need a break I think, especially after this morning…

There's no doubt the weapons bay is better than the kit part:

on Flickr

… and despite the attraction of Martin's idea you can see that the roof would need to be replaced before any scratch building and the wing roots chopped off and somehow re-attached. I need to be careful with the resin though - it's very thin in some places; look at the top of this photo:

45936638354_3810184999_z.jpg

Cripes.

To avoid / change the frustration I looked at the windscreen again. It seems to be too wide and a bit bent:

45746228255_4f4f1e031d_n.jpg 46661288451_d7bcb097da_n.jpg

The kit part fits well (of course) but you can see the difference in the window shapes, especially the triangular ones at the back:

32786693068_509db1b246_n.jpg 45746228255_4f4f1e031d_n.jpg

When pinched together, with the suggested gap at the top, the very rear of the part misses the back on the port side:

31719766097_7e19e554d6_z.jpg

Frustrating and disappointing, to be honest.

I'll leave it for today and hope for some 'get on with it' mojo tomorrow.

I feel your pain Ced.

Just an idea, if you have a window masking set or could make one yourself some masks, sand the kit window down and rid yourself of all windows. Then masks on and spray your framing back on, just an idea?

Mask the clear bits first

Stick onto the fuselage

Fill with cyano

Let it harden, leave til that day's tomorrow

Gently file, sand and polish the Cyrano polystyrene until smooth and lovely

Short shot in Ali's mould maybe, have you tried asking him if he has a better one for the BM audience to enjoy

Just wondering

And why not, Alex is very approachable and I am sure he would do his level best.

If it's the Alley Cat replacement, it should have come with a vinyl mask, so that idea might not be the worst possible choice.

But rotten luck, Buffers! You'd expect an aftermarket part (which isn't cheap) to at least be fit for purpose. It's not like there are a lot of other Nimrod kits they could have designed it for.

Stuart

Not a bad idea that. I know its a bad idea with my restricted workspace already chocker with builds but I am getting a siren call to get one of my Nimrods down from the stash and see how I would tackle the kit. Quick, somebody save me from myself!
