PlaStix
These are my two builds for the Eleventh Hour: Commemorating the end of the Great War - Group Build. These two were my first ever World War 1 tank builds and I thoroughly enjoyed making them both - they are fascinating vehicles in their own right. I had planned on doing a much more detailed scene but realised I was starting to run out of time to do anything too complex in case I didn't get it completed before the close of the GB at midnight today. The scene itself is set very late on in the conflict and I was imagining what the thoughts of the British crew must have been about the idea of the rotating turret on the FT-17. Kits: 1/35 Takom and Meng Paints: Humbrol, Revell, Citadel and Railmatch Acrylic paints all applied by brush Figures: Master Box Base: Wilko picture frame, pizza box base styrene, Polyfiller and various scatter materials and tufts from Jarvis, Woodlands Scenics and Army Painter. WIP thread: Here Whippet RFI: Here FT-17 RFI: Here The photos below were taken on my Spitfire display base which has the sky backdrop: Some photos of the vignette in it's picture frame base: Finally thank you to Robert Stuart for hosting the excellent GB and anyone who commented or offered advice in my build thread. bhouse
Very fine indeed. The figures really add to the vehicles - and your painting brings them to life. You can tell the chap far right is French and probably had some mid-ranking bureaucratic job before becoming a Poilou! And you seem to have a pretty wide angle lens at your disposal...
Badder
Sorry, but I totally overlooked this GB. I shall defo have a look now I'm aware of it! STUNNING WORK AS ALWAYS STIX. A simple diorama, but extremely effective and evocative. At first I was thinking 'that needs some poppies' and then I saw them in the following photos. So, perfection achieved. I will take this opportunity, if I may, to pick out the various mud effects as being particularly perfect. I suspect you're going to need to clear another space on your trophy shelf. I thought the the French chap on the far right looked rightly proud of his tank, with the turret that rotated, and I can see what you mean too. With regards the photography - I only use my iPad for taking the photos. I take them quite carefully so I can then make use of the crop tool on the iPad for removing the unwanted bits around the image I actually want. Shame you missed the GB but, because Britmodeller is so big, It's easy to miss loads - I know I do frequently. Kind regards, Stix

Sgt.Squarehead
I think you missed a bit: "....so the top rotates?" "Mais bien sûr" "It'll never catch on." Very nicely done Stix and a cleverly schemed theme too. Reckon the FT's tail may be just a bit too pristine.....Matter of preference I guess.

sanfrandragon
This is superb. I don't know much about WW1 armour but these are 2 wonderful and well-modelled examples. The mud is so realistic and the figures and their faces a work of art in themselves. The poppies are a nice and evocative touch. Great photos too, amazing you can produce such quality on an ipad!

I think you are correct - I should have gone with that! Thank you for your kind comments and you are right about the tail. I kind of missed it until I noticed it in the photos too! I think it was probably because I added it later on and had already added the mud towards the bottom areas. Also, once it was on, the angle of it meant I didn't pick up the fact that the upper section looked too clean and undamaged. I will re-visit it later. But as John_W mentioned it could just be new...............or maybe I did just miss it out! MickE
Fantastic scene. The mud effects are spot-on. I particularly like the fact that there are no over-the-top (no pun intended 🙂) rusting effects and over-weathering, which, while looking impressive, is totally unrealistic.
