Yes! (Which one of us will finish theirs first?)

I think that my next RFI will be the Firebox or the long awaited Starfire...

May be in March in fact...

The F-4B Hum in 2019 surely… Well Almost… I'll try at least !!

Great work on the Guns Christer !!

Sincerely.

CC

That looks good. I will have to install these after I have finished the major painting now. My guns and wheels turned up today. Two days from Australia isn't bad. However, it looks worth doing. I got have the masking done yesterday for the brown colour. Today was my 65th birthday so not much will happen here today.

Thanks Chris, CC and Greg!

I managed to fit the final pieces of the Master set during the weekend. It was a littel etched flange that goes around the main barrel like so:

All in all, quite a straightforward replacement, not a drop fit but not Aires-cockpit-stupid hard either.

I probably need two more sets for the Eduard Tiffy reboxes though...

Now, this is supposed to be a desert Tiffy and actually Red Roo that did the decals also supplies a little air filter in resin.

Very kind of them.

At first I thought it just looked a little bare with no details on it, especially when comparing to the 1/24 Air filter that was in my big box.

However, Red Roo states quite clearly that this was a prototype installation done in 1943 and as prototypes could look a lot different compared to the production example I didn't replace it or enhanced it in any way.

It sounds plausible doesn't it?

Not at all like I'm loo lazy to fix it, no?

It's getting closer to primer time though!

Mine is almost painted now. I am having trouble with the leading edge splitting near the metal gun barrels. So I'm touching that up at the moment. The Air filter looks Ok once the cover is on and it is all painted.

I'm slowing working on mine while I do a pair of Me 262's for the Specialist group build.

It's high time that I finish thos one so I can go all in on the Eduard Tiffys...

I took a leap into the unknown and shot some black primer onto it, and followed that with some marbling with white.

Mission Models whit was used, and I found out that even though they claim it does not build paint fast on the needle, my white paint-mix was doing the opposite.
But with quick needle cleaning it dit behave properly . Coverage off the paint was very good though!

What I've been doing wrong with Mission Models during the spring is that I haven't used their Polyuretan additive. If one uses 50% paint, 20% thinner and 30% poly it works a lot different, and the endresult is both sturdier and shiny. I had a go with their Azure blue and made a first coat:

That was left to harden during the night and after a quick 2000-grit rubbing I added the second layer.

Finally I know how to use this paint!

To bad that a ghost seam showed up under the radiator and I could've done a better job sanding all leading and trailing edges.

Oh well.

It's just a model.

Hi Greg!

Nothing has happened with this one for a while, I've been too busy with my dH Hornet the last couple of weeks...

But I still have a bit more than 4 weeks of vacation to indulge with so anything might happen.

I hope!

Ok, it's been almost 9 months since the last time....but here's a little update!

Today the sun broke through the clouds and the balcony got really warm and cosy. So I started to spring clean the spray booth, and then attached the canopy on the Tiffy, finished up the masking of the underside and then when to work.

One Marble coeat Gunze Mid stone later

Then a cover layer
49631272586_01eac11414_o.jpg
A bit too stark, so I tried to tone it with some Tamiya Buff

Maybe a bit too much, so I added a final top coat:

It's really hard to capture in photos as usual with all my shading experiments but there is something visible with the naked eye at least.
Let's not wait another 9 months to do the Dark Earth!

I said pictures and here they are!

Saturday started with a bright sun a clear sky and temperatures below zero, but since it is March and not December this is no longer an issue. Despite long walks, general housing activities that SWMBO decided and a daughter that needs help with geometry and light physics I managed to get a suitable amount of time in front of the spray booth.
49662565318_bd83626498_o.jpg
I started with some sausages of masking putty, filling in the covered area as I went on. Then I began to lay some squiggles with, but thought that the black areas and Mid stone areas behave differently, so I decided to cover it all up with Nato black. Not the best of decision as it turned out....
49662565283_9b07f30378_o.jpg
A thin squiggle of Gunze Dark Earth started the fun part, and then I followed it up with a slightly thicker cover layer.

Then I tried yet another time to add another set of squiggles with lightened DE:

For sure, it is a lot of fun splash around with paint!

Time to remove the masking putty and inspect the result...

Oh bugger.

The Masking putty had started to flatten during the time I painted leading to the final cover layer of DE didnt completely cover the demarcations as before. I got a very funky looking high contrast scheme which definitely wasn't the intended idea. Suffice to say, I wasn't too pleased with this.

What to do?

Well, I could try to freehand it maybe?

Well, that didn't work too good, so I resorted to new rolls of masking putty instead, and arrived at this.

That will suffice, or what do you guys think?
A thin filter of Tamiya Buff will be sprayed on top of everything once the stickers are on, but that will come later.

Great idea !! I would do one too, just be carefull about the spinner, it's not black at all.

The allied aircraft have a red spinner on MTO...

But on the B/W pics of the time, red look like black.

The pictures are of poor quality but the black colour was derived from comparison with the fin flash, the centre of the roundels and the propeller blades.

Presumably painted in the UK and not altered in the field. They were for trials only and not combat.
