Query - Aussie Mk21 Beaufighter's with bombs

Recommended Posts

I am looking for images or information regarding Mk.21 Beaufighter's armed with bombs. I have trawled the IWM and AWM collections, as well as a few other sites and have found images of bombs attached both under the fuselage and also outboard of the engines.

What i have yet to find is an image that clearly shows a Mk.21 bombed up in any fashion. I am also looking for detail information, photos or drawings on the bomb attachment points for the wings or fuselage.

I am looking for a candidate aircraft to build a bomb armed Mk.21 from the 1/48 Tamiya kit.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Hiya Matt,

               Here is a Mk.21 with bombs fitted;

And another;

This isn`t a Mk.21,...... but I think that the bomb racks were identical;

RAAF Bristol Beaufighters

This may be of use too?

All the best

Tony,

Those are great photos, none of which I have seen before. I have a much better idea about their location on the aircraft.

Now, to scratch build or obtain pe/resin racks?

G'day Matt,

                  I put a few photo's on the thread of RAAF Beaufighters , 250Ib bombs, 3 x 100Ib napalm bombs, 20 Ib cluster bomb racks , 300Ib depth charges, large home made fragmentation bombs , all on 30 Sqn Beaufighters.

While RAAF Beaufighter units in the UK used the under fuselage bomb racks , Pacific based units only used the wing racks.

Don't know if you found these two images during your search:

Both these photos show British built Beaufighters. In the first photo LY-K is A19-200, a Mk.X, which was with 30 squadron RAAF between Sept and Nov 1944. In the second the camouflage points to a British built aircraft and not an overall green Australian built aircraft.
