do you have access to beaching gear or the big radar pod behind the cockpit glazing?

You might try the Squadron/Signal PBY Catalina walkaround; IIRC, there were some good photos that showed the radome and beaching gear. @Tailspin Turtle might also have featured the beaching gear on his Tailhook Topics blog site.

I threw in this film footage- no real closeups of the beaching gear, but very interesting footage that shows early Catalinas in action- love those prewar colors and markings!

+2 please.  I don't want to make my Academy kits out of the box with the cowlings uncorrected.

I've got the Maintenance Manuals on USB somewhere - I just have to find them!

Found them! Unfortunately, the chapter on the radar is missing from the Maintenance Manual - not sure why. It doesn't appear in the Parts Catalog at all (maybe it was a modification?). As expected, there's nothing on the beaching gear as the manual covers PBY-5A and -6A aircraft, which had retractable gear. Annoying, as I want to model a PBY-5 myself once the correction kit is ready!

I've sent you a PM re a couple of pages that may be of use.

Don’t mean to be a ‘negative Nelly’ but this correction set was first proposed almost 3 years ago.

Is this a serious proposition? Is it close to fruition? My Catalina kits are gathering a nice layer of dust, which I’d like to remove.

Admiral, I may have responded to this project at some point along the way, but I didn't see my name.  I realize that you are not now asking for a count, but I am interested.  And I have 3 Catalinas!  So, depending on price, of course ...

When this conversion appears - and I agree that it has had a long gestation so far - I will contact everyone who has contributed to this thread and ask them if they are still interested in a set.

It may be of interest to note that this one is only about 3 years old and nowhere near the record for a Red Roo conversion.....  we (ummm... me, that is) are still working on a Fairchild update

https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234949653-fairchild-f24-in-australian-service-finished/

and even that one is not our record..... so do't be too hard on @Admiral Puff !!

The Admiral, Christopher Brown of HPM Models and I have been working on this and now we have a prototype. It will be test fitted into an Academy kit, any corrections made and put into production.

You can see the new nacelle and cowling are only a little bit larger than the Academy offering but I think it will make a substantial difference to the appearance.

The upgrade will consist of nacelles, cowlings, cowling fronts, engines, propellers, exhausts and intakes.

The easiest way to determine when it is available is to sign up for the Red Roo newsletter from our web site. Alternatively, PM me your email address and I will put you on a list.

Edit - I have sent a PM to everyone who responded, except two members without mailboxes @Wm Blecky and @J.C. Bahr , to draw attention to this update. We haven't determined a price yet, but we don't think it will be that expensive, by current resin casting costs. Anyway, there is no compulsion to purchase before you have seen the price. We ship overseas and charge postage at Australia Post costs.

Great news, Ed! I would like two sets. BTW, your F-86F slatted wing sets are the bee’s knees! Did I see somewhere that ypu are working on the same for the F-86D? I guess because the belly section is a different contour than the F-86F? Hoping everyone at Red Roo are safe and well!

@Ed Russell  the same cowlings in sets of four  you can produce as a conversion set for early (not supercharged) Liberators. OK, there are more changes but one have to start from something.... :)

Hi Ed, I would be interested in a set, I  only  have one, which is more likely to get built if the cowlings are right.
