SBS 1/72nd Latecoere 28.3 "Comte de la Vaulx", resin kit

Recommended Posts

From 2 years ago, another toilet-equipped flying wonder.

SBS' Latecoere 28 is a welcome addition to the slowly growing line of civil options provided by smaller (in size, but big in brains) manufacturers.

SBS releases of the different versions of the DH88 racer and the Farman F.190 (and other subjects) are to commend in every sense.

As said in the WIP article, you could build this kit as it is, but I decided to go a few extra yards to tweak it a bit and add some things.

The "Comte de la Vaulx" (in honor of a FAI preeminent member), flown by Mermoz, realized the first commercial crossing of the South Atlantic and added a record for that to its existing numerous ones.

The Late 28, part of the legend of "La Ligne", opened the South-American region to new horizons, and pioneered and heralded the future of commercial aviation for that part of the world.

Names like Mermoz, Guillaumet, Saint Exupery and many others will grow to the stature of legends.

In 1929 Saint-Exupéry was appointed director of the "Aeroposta Argentina ", a branch of the Aeropostale.

I made for this kit a full interior (the manufacturer provides a full cockpit) with restroom and cabin equipment. If you are curious, go the to WIP link of this post, BUT it you really need to use the restroom, please note that the toilet discharges au plein air 🙂

And now, images of the completed model

(but why of why did I then photograph this model on grass instead of tarmac?)

From the kit.

Too bad :)

I'm trying to find a proper way to scratch build these little suckers. All the methods I tried so far are either too labour intensive or don't produce decent results

Hi Pin

It's very simple: google "croco 1/72 venturi"

The vendor sells a row of about 15 Venturis cast in resin. Good quality.

I have made some rolling soft solder wire with, for example,  the edge of a tool, and then cutting the section I needed.

I have two packs of Crocos.

The ones of the smallest size are barely useable, mid-size are okay-ish but still need cleaning, big ones are fine, but still need cleaning

Oh my giddy aunt Mr Moa - that is just beautiful. Those resin kits are just wonderful - I have a stash of Schneider Cup racers from Karaya and the SBS Farman 190 and you are inspiring me to get at least one under way. Very well done!

Another excellent model and that is probably the best 1/72nd toilet I have ever seen. The original must have been fairly heavy though and presumably it was forbidden to use it on the ground (mind you, it would not have been a good idea to be living under the flightpath).

Oh wow, what a cracker Moa an unusual but attractive machine and looks love in this scheme too.

Great work as usual.

All the best

Chris

Thanks, Chris.

SBS kits may require attention and concentration, but they are delightful, especially the later ones.

Another build stunning beyond belief! I behaved Moa. I saw the toilet inside the plane and refrained from straining to see a roll of toilet paper. Knowing your building skills and attention to detail it wouldn't have surprised me in the least to see one hanging there. Heartfelt admiration for truly astounding work.

Oh, ye of little faith!

(These are from the WiP thread)

The other toilet and roll were from another project:

And here is the roll in the Latecoere:

Yeah I am missing a photo of the take off run in the nearby river with turning prop ...

Fantastic model anyways.

Edit:
Oops fell for it again, it's an old model but still fantastic
