Reini78
Because the Stearman turned out nice, my dad tries another biplane attempt with the Gladiator. The Merit kit is a Trumpeter product, aside from the rigging it should go together well, not many parts, molding and detail look nice. Reini78
started some detail painting Trying to use flexible plastic seatbelts from Fine Molds, but they bend only to a certain point, then they break. If they don´t work out, gonna use Eduard ones. DSC_0006 by Reinhard Spreitzhofer, auf Flickr DSC_0007 by Reinhard Spreitzhofer, auf Flickr decals for the instrument board didn´t work out perfectly, but you won´t see it afterwards with the closed one piece canopy.. Greg Law
Good one Reinhard. This one interests me I have two Roden kits of this plane, so I will be watching what you are doing. What paint scheme will you do. I hope to do one of them as a Norway battle plane. Now I have sorted out what was going wrong with my rigging. Never use thin CA. Reini78
Instructions go for Gunze H3 red, but we guess the paint should match the squadron colour which is more red-orange. used Vallejo Bright Red DSC_0007 by Reinhard Spreitzhofer, auf Flickr DSC_0008 by Reinhard Spreitzhofer, auf Flickr

John_W
Looking good. I have the Roden kit, but the struts are a pig and one wing collapsed under the strain of rigging and the cabane struts were totally the wrong length. Might get one of these and graft the Roden cowling on to it, as I know the shape is the weak point of the Merit kit. Someone will be along shortly to tell you that the collector ring wasn't copper, but a burnt steel colour... 1

Comparing the two kits, the Merit one seems more or less like a copy of the Roden but with better quality. Yeah, I know the topic from the Beaufighter....😄 looking at the warbirds/museum pieces the ring looks sometimes like worn/burnt copper and sometimes more burnt steel..gonna suggest my dad to shade it with some burnt metal colour
John_W
Each strut on the Roden kit is a separate part, and getting the angles right is difficult without some sort of a jig, especialy with the length of the cabane struts. I like the look of the Merit struts with their "all in one" moulding. The Roden instrument panel is a clear moulding, and you put a reverse decal on the back and paint round the dials. Paul J
Looking very nice. Not your fault but not sure about the fuselage roundel size and with the white ring though. Also the box art of this kit is reminiscent of the Airfix Series 1 bagged kit with a Roy Cross art(if it was by him that is??).
Steve Coombs
As for the collector ring, I've used Citadel Warplock Bronze as a base, put some thinned Burnt Steel on top, then dulled down the shine with some satin varnish. Works for me!

bigbadbadge
Great work so far. This is looking very nice indeed. I have a Roden one in the stash for a Sea Gladiator build and have built one previously as a Mk1 Gladiator which turned out very nicely. Keep up the good work. All the best Chris
Greg Law
Reinhard Tell your dad he is making a splendid job of it. I do have to agree with the guys the collector ring is in more of a burnt iron/copper colour. It isn't that easy to achieve. I think you need to use one of those burnishing paints to get it to look right, By the way. I finished my Zero in the Pacific GB. (except for the wing lights which go on today if I can get the slack groundcrew to get it right this time)
