1/72 Zvezda Yakolev Yak-3 "White 19"

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow Britmodellers,

this is my 1/72 Zvezda Yak-3, built with Eduard phot etch, Armory wheels, Rob Taurus vacu and Quickboost spinner.

Markings are from Begemot 'Yak-3 Family' sheet, representing an aircraft of 303. Fighter Division, 3rd Belorussian Front, spring 1945.

The model was painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics.

Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel.

"White 19" was an early production aircraft, carrying only one UB machine gun in the cowling.

I filled the recess of the gun opening on the right side and removed the small fairing behind.

Hi Roman,

beautiful result, as usual. Congrats!

Is the Zvezda Yak-3 one of their quick build kits, along with the 109 F-2 and Fw 190 A-4?

If it is, it is indeed a super kit, as it looks top of the tree.

Cheers.

Hello Jean, thank you very much for feedback.

This kit is from Zvezda's "Snap Fit" series.

I've never built their Bf-109 or Fw-190, but if the package says "no glue required" it is the same type.

You could, theoretically, build the kit without any glue, but it would make for an unsafe assembly in some places.

Some parts are simplified (like the wheels, which have massive pin plugs to attach to the undercarriage doors) and might be modified or replaced.

The kit's propeller  backplate is too wide, resulting in an odd seamline at the spinner. This problem is more unpleasant, because difficult to remove.

I took the easy way by replacing it with a Quickboost item (QB72563).

In my humble opinion, the Zvezda kit is the best Yak-3 in 72 scale on the market and can be fully recommended.

(The same sprues will soon be re-boxed by Revell Germany, according to company's website))

Hi My Dear Friend Roman!!!

Have arrived, late but arrived!!!

Congratulations for this little gem you have obtained this time. I think personally that, apart of the ANR 109 and the Romanian 109, you have a lot of dexterity and plentiful of talent when speaking about the russian birds. This one could be a simple and nice kit but you have transformed this little kit labeled as Snap and Glue in a true jewel with so added detail and enhanced the kit lines with precious and little detailing, and crowned the build with a little weathering. I have bought the FW 190 A-4 and BF 109 F kits of the series, and for sure want  the good guys from Kasperle bring this one here too...and hopefully complete all the series to get those nice kits. The guilty will be you showing this nice masterpiece,so stay tuned about what will happen.

Thank you very much for sharing!!!

Cheers,

Luis Alfonso

Beautiful job on the Yak-3, Roman! Fun fact about the Yak-3 - fully-loaded it weighed less than half what a fully-loaded P-51D did. It was a deadly little fighter, especially at low altitudes.

Regards,

Jason
