1/72 Fine molds Y wing

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

here is my Y wing from Fine molds, a great model and an easy build in my first Sci Fi diorama.

I have to add a stormtrooper in the right corner to balance the diorama.

Like doesn’t come close, that looks superb, you have done a cracking job there. I especially like the debris trail

what technique did you use to build the sand up around the cockpit where it nose dived in?

Thanks for your comment.

TO create the sand around the cockpit, i've made tubes made in polyfilla that i 've put along the cockpit and the engine cells. Then i've modified the tubes with a lightly wet hard brush to make them have a more random effect. At the end, i've applied pigments to perfect the effect.

What did you use for the brown soot around the blast marks? I like that tonage.

Nice paint job! I love the trails behind the ship and engines. They look great.

The mounting holes from the ion cannon on top of the canopy are a bit disturbing, though.

It's hard to see in those pictures, but is the droid damaged, too?

thanks for your comment,

I've lost the gun turret, that's why i've imagined a modified Y wing (with more speed and autonomy, a kind of reconaissance ship).

The droïd is damaged too.

For the blast marks, i've first painted them in  a black grey with a thin brush. Then, i've lightly airbrushed a highly diluted black brown mix above the marks.

Do you remember which paints you mixed for the soot?

I'm desperately looking for a dark brown-black color to airbrush soot and blast marks, but my own mixing attemps weren't successful so far. Yours seems to be pretty much what I have in mind.

Thanks for your comments.

I've mixed gunze flat black with gunze dark earth (english camouflage), but i can't tell you exactly the proportions. Maybe 80 % black....

Cheers,
