Fouga Magister CM.170 'Patrouille de France' - Airfix 1975

Recommended Posts

I must say, a very fun 3-4 month build. Even though it is 43 year old kit! (made/boxed in 1975) it went together quite well and detail was quite good for an old kit! In fact i found it better than some kits today. Way better than a Heller kit. It was fun spraying blue paint and i really liked the rivet details, so i left them and did some re scribing on wings. Ooh yes and canopy cracked while putting on masks ;(

Nice work - it came out great - nice job on the canopy - I built this a little while ago and gave up trying to mask it off as there are no recesses really to know where to trim - just painted it freehand with a neaten up with a toothpick. The "current" airfix release for this is exactly the same kit from 1975 - just reboxed with new decals.

Looks like a nice day in Malta

Yes masking the canopy is very difficult. Especially since the canopy does not have bold lines and recesses. Even the canopy rivets were out of place. When manually masking I always end up leaving cuts in the glasswork.
For this I bought a mask set but for the Valom kit! I thought it will fit well because they are both 1:72... but I did not.. in some parts. Some masks were too big, whilst others were to small. But in the end it is pretty unnoticeable and I didn't get any paint bleed.

Very nice. All you need is an Alpha Jet to complement the others.

Yes it crossed my mind! But there are no 'good' kits around. The paint scheme is very complex and no white decals are given (just the nose lightening bolt), its all masking...and i dont like Heller or Matchbox kits!
