Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire IXc

Recommended Posts

Another stash lurker that was crying out to be built. I can't really add to what's been said previously about this kit. It all fits beautifully and goes together surprisingly quickly. I added the Eduard Brassin instrument panel and brass cannons. The only issue I had was getting the cowls to fit after assembly. I suspect it's my own fault. Everything fits so precisely that the slightest error is compounded by the time final assembly is reached. Finished in Hakata acrylics in the markings of MH737 FF-Y of 132 Sqn at RAF Detling in 1943 from the Xtradecal sheet X32020.

I would happily build another one if it wasn't quite so expensive.

Great looking Spitfire, obviously well kept and in almost pristine condition!

By contrast, that makes the black exhaust marks look exaggerated. The narrow gunpowder streaks from the 20 mm guns look downright unrealistic – with the muzzle that far forward there's no way you would get that kind of neat trails all the way to the trailing edge of the wing…

Otherwise, an impressive build!

Kind regards,

Joachim

Hello Derek

Another masterpiece, but nut sue how you are going to display or store it. Just a wee bit of surprize about the cannon dirt comment. How does anybody know what the dirt looked like. Unless you have photographic evidence and from experience that can be unreliable as well.

What a great build and finish, I wouldn't worry about the cowls, who would want to hide that lovely Merlin

I wouldn't worry about the cannon stains, it's your interpretation after all, one day Joachim might post one of his builds and show us how it should be done 😉

Hi, my father was a pilot in 43 squadron and when based in Klagenfurt MH737 was his regular Spitfire. I have photographs of him with this one and after a crash along with other photographs of his time as a pilot from 1943 to 1946. As a new member I am not sure how to post photographs for you to see.

Very nice model.
