Was the black still used during the BoB ?

No. It's just box art..

Box art shows the black port wing and sky band introduced in November 1940 till April 1941, with Sky on the rest of the underside.

This cause no end of confusion, as pre june 1940 there was the black/white split undersides.

I really recommend reading these as they are very good for how the camo and markings changed.

the rest of the series are here

They are old, circa 1970, but are still overall very good initial primer references on the subject, covering all the basics, which is a lot in itself!

In particular, they have detail of camo scheme patterns, and roundel sizes etc, all in one place

PS you asked about the Defiant above

The centrally divided black/white underside was used until June 1940 and the black port wing on Sky underside was introduced in November 1940, neither would be appropriate for a BoB aircraft :)

If somebody from America wants to join;  is it okay, so long as we all pretend he is Canadian?

Asking for a friend.

Clearly, I'm finally blending in. Success!

(Yes, of course.)

I guess we should allow up to three Americans to join, since three US pilots fought in the Battle. ;)

I have a small question, not about dates, but places. Are aircraft from any UK base OK? I'd like to do something Scottish. If aircraft based in Scotland won't do I can always do a 602 or 603 squadron plane in the southeast. So, not the biggest deal of all time,

Thanks,

Alan

Scotland is part of Britain too, and was attacked by the Luftwaffe -- and very ably defended by the RAF.

First, @Putty Animal indicated the question was for a friend who was going to claim to be Canadian.

As for me, I'm, uh, asking for my wife, who was born in Poland, and will be building her, um, first model, as a 303 Squadron Hurricane.

I've got an Airfix 1.24 Spitfire that came to me without a box. It's been daring me to build it for years now. Best I get it out the loft in preparation then!

All together now...

At my local Model Club we had a Christmas draw recently. I was lucky enough to get a 1.48 scale Tamiya spitfire!

It looks like I have two entries for the GB now. 😀

I really should have my name down for this, be very rude not to. Where do I sign?

You don't need to sign up, just start a thread in the appropriate part of the forum when it is set up :)

Cheers,

Stew

I've been having a think of what I'm going to build, I've been thinking about a 1/72 DO-17 with a 1/48 spitfire diving down onto it. I'm just after any advice on if that would work?

Bit of a change of plan I picked up a Fujimi 110 at Telford, I’ve just picked up a Tamyia new spitfire for £20 posted. So Spitfire rolling onto a straight and level 110 is now the plan.
