Fun and Folded The Airfix Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat 1/72

Recommended Posts

Hello you lot.

A little more has been done on the cat.😺

I’ve been doing bits and bobs when I get a spare second so instead of little posts I decided to store up the pics for a weekly thing. Hope you enjoy the update.

Masking is the next bit I got on to.

the under belly windows.

30902888797_c528cfae2b_b.jpg

And the cockpit area.

44929613195_80cee4fcd2_b.jpg

this was a tricky area and I think I somehow cocked up the office placement. I’m not sure how but there was a little gap just in front of the gun sight that I’m pretty sure the gun sight was meant to fit into. 😮 it was too late to go ripping the whole thing apart so we I filled the gap with a little PPP and we shal never speak of it again.

Next up the UC bay got stuffed with sponge and tape.

44929608055_1515753b26_b.jpg

the cowl is dry fitted here just to squeeze the fuselage together while it dries. Ok next we have the wing roots, a dry fit show what a good fit these things are.

And the other side.

30902889217_d7e74322bd_b.jpg

Glue and tape closes the little gap rather well.

44025838700_3c76cbc047_b.jpg

This all starts to come together rather quickly. The tail parts get added.

31971459938_72443c4e92_b.jpg

I tidied up the cowl and primed again.

45842384891_2ddef09894_b.jpg

Some seams, even though you can’t tell from the above pic but they got fixed with some Mr S.

30902892297_f274b95862_b.jpg

I’m doing an open canopy so these parts got masked.

44929607835_2738284bc8_b.jpg

While I waited for the Mr S to dry I snipped off, tidied and primed all the little bits.

31971456998_375f612548_b.jpg

Even these ones.

30902889047_07acac7579_b.jpg

By this time the Mr S had set and I sanded the seams losing some line detail in the process.

44929611985_bb582437da_b.jpg

Never fear, Tamiya tape for bends and a scribing thing stick is here! 😉

45117755904_a227b09cc9_b.jpg

lines are back.

31971456438_6fd1bf1fb4_b.jpg

and on the top too. The detail on this little fella is great. I think it’s time for.

44929608345_c65b5439e9_b.jpg

yay!!!!!!!

Any hoo that’s it for now. Hope this isn’t too boring for you and you’re enjoying the build regardless of speed. 😃

I forgot it was Telford this weekend. I hope whoever went had a lovely time. That 1/24 HellCat looks rather nice.

Gotta fly.

As always, Happy modelling chums.

Johnny.

Nice going Johnny Surfacer. Not going to be using as much paint up as the Lanc. 😆

*raises right hand* I solemnly swear not to mention the issue of the gunsight again until RFI.

Looking very sweet there Johnny.

The kit goes together quite well I found , with a minimal of filler.

Looking forward to the painting .

Simon.

Thanks Simon. Yes she seems like a lovely little kit. ‘Tis true.

Bring on the paint! How weathered are you thinking of making it?

Geoff

It’s coming, slowly but surely. I’m just going for subtle weathering as most Navy birds were quite ship shape as it were.

Ill post an an update after dinner. 🙌

It’s been a busy few days but I have managed a little bench time.  Here goes then. Everything got a well earned pre shade.

nice! Them using the Tamiya wild cat as colour reference I mixed XF-19 and XF2 2:1 for the undersides.

45031961325_6836997acc_b.jpg45944066311_9cdea69b09_b.jpg

I’m happy with that 😌, now masking time. Just to build up some Mojo (tm) I painted and glued the engine.

44127748120_c25d4e567d_b.jpg

Rrrright then where did I put that masking tape and sponge? 😃

45894900792_3097ccd2fa_b.jpg

Oh and the cowl went on too.

32073088728_b568256bc1_b.jpg

The internal wing parts got masked, a right pain.

32073088328_38a7d62ff9_b.jpg45894899722_57ea50f79a_b.jpg

Then painted green Tamiya XF-71

Then mmoorree mmassskkiinngg.

44127744820_9c7feb076d_b.jpg44127744160_9784903427_b.jpg

nearly ready for the blue! 😎 and there it had to be left until next I manage to grab a few golden moments. Thanks for tagging along with the cat. She appreciates it.

all the best and Happy Modelling.

More of that old Spadgent Black Magic. Lovely work Johnny.

Thanks Tony.

Thank you all for the super kind words. As with everyone it seems the plastic is taking rather a back seat at the moment but I’ll keep the home fires burning. I promise.

Johnny flame. X
