IMGUR - PROBLEM SOLVED.

Recommended Posts

Hmmmm found another proxy server (free) typed in URL for Imgur and got straight in, logged in, page showing my username, but can't see my albums, images, or access any function.

Lob it out the window in a paddy, and get a new one ^_^

Try more things, and it might give me some more suggestions.  Switch off your virus checker & malware software briefly to test it's not them blocking you?

Done that - not the throwing it out the window thing, the other bit.  I went as far as to uninstall McAffee and now only have windows defender, which I've been turning on and off and fiddling about with throughout the day. Only thing I havent tried is freeing up some memory by saving files on USB, but I don't see how a few MB's would prevent access to just IMGUR and not any other site.

Freeing up space (either on disk or in memory) is unlikely to have any affect on this kind of problem.

Someone suggested earlier running CC Cleaner - and I'd add my recommendation to theirs, as it checks for rogue programs, badly installed libraries [.dll files] and registry errors, any of which could be the cause of your "interesting" problem.

Other than that I'd check your browsers security/privacy settings and ensure that Imgur hasn't mysteriously appeared on the Blocked Site/Domain list. Not sure which browser you're running as you've mentioned several earlier in the thread, but each of them should have a 'Settings' or 'Preferences' option on their menu.

It shouldn't.  It might however be a good prelude toward reinstalling your OS from scratch though, if that becomes necessary.  You do take backups, I hope? :)

Sorry, had to laugh. Thought you were being rude. Then I realised it is just another one of those gobbledegook computery terms.

But yeah, everything I value, in this wonderful place called cyberspace, is saved on a lump of removable silicon.

 Mate, I'm now out of all suggestions, sorry.

No worries. I am grateful for everyone's suggestions though. I have tried them all. Sadly, no luck. I think I may just have to bite the bullet and sign up to Flikr. I imagine that my Imgur account will expire at some point and then I will have to replace all of the photos. I tell you, I really, really, really, really, hate modern technology. It's all as reliable and user-unfriendly as a rusty barreled blunderbuss.

Have you tried deleting your browser and reinstalling it?

I installed 2 new browsers which I've never used before, and neither of them could access imgur either Brian. I think it's more to do with windows than anything else.

It does sound as if it may be the recent Win 10 update, if you are running Win 10

I read somewhere that the new update has caused other web access problems and the updates are massively space using/stealing

Can you find a pre-update part of Win and go back to it?

That's a good point @perdu.  If you're using W10, try googling round the we access issue that's occurred from their latest update.  Or you could shortcut the process and try restoring your PC from the latest point before the update occurred.  Windows 10 folks.  Free (at the beginning) and worth every penny :poop:

Yup.  We had Caz's laptop on it until recently, and it was a PITA from start to finish.  We eventually installed Ubuntu on a spare SSD, and she's been transitioning to that now for a few weeks, and although she's not enjoying it because it's a change to how she's been using her laptop, but she's really not having much trouble at all.  I've tried to keep it nice and simple for her, as she'll freely admit she's far from a power user, but for what she needs, it'll good stuff.  It's a bit worrying that MS are now involved with Ubuntu, but for now it's a decent OS.  W10 on the other hand is a bag of :poop:

I'm a W7 fan myself.  I was cool with XP, but once I'd been to W7 I was fine with the upgrade.  W8 was an abortion, and I never tried 8.1.  W10 annoyed me from the get-go when it force "upgraded" my gaming PC without my permission and while I was watching a movie on it.  We let Caz's laptop upgrade, but now we wish we hadn't.

Hey Mike - if Caz is finding Ubuntu a bit of a task, you could try Linux Mint (currently at version 19). I'm running that on my two other PCs and it's a real doddle and very Windows-like.

LM18 was good, 18.2 was better and 19 looks to have sorted out quite a few problems. It's Ubuntu based so won't be too unfamiliar. I'd recommend using the Cinnamon version, which is the most Windows-like.

It does (like most Linux/Unix installs) require effort to get it all up and running, but once running it's uncannily like Windows (even the keystrokes seem to work effortlessly). The only 'struggles' it has given me is with multiple monitor setups (I use 3 normally) and the sound card (Linux does NOT like Creative cards - which is a shame, cos I DO like them 🙂 )

Cheers

Like @modelman182, I would highly recommend the Linux Mint (Cinnamon) distro. It's supposed to be the easiest one to transition to from Windows. I tried Ubuntu a few years ago and didn't take to it, but I really like Mint. When W10 started playing up on Mrs Gorby laptop I installed Mint and although she isn't the most tech savvy person, she said that she hasn't had any problems with it. The thing that really pushed her over the edge with W10 was the frequent, compulsory, incredibly long updates. The updates on Mint can be done any time and I've not had one last longer than 7 or 8 minutes.

Unfortunately I've been habitually deleting old versions of windows after updates as they take up a fair bit of memory. I never bothered with a 'restore point' until yesterday when I was considering restoring my laptop to its original settings. Now of course, I have no way to go back to a previous 'working' version of windows.

My bro is an IT specialist and ran through a lot of possible 'cures' with me, but none of those worked. He suspects the problem is a virus which is blocking me from accessing Imgur. He'll be popping round weds eve, so hopefully he can fix it.

That's good news (the fixing it part).  No-one needs a virus, but what a weird thing for a virus to do!  Hopefully it's not got a sideline in collecting all your personal info, but just in case, I'd not use it for anything other than idling smurfing the internet until Bro has fixed it

Hallo everyone

Oh look: A few days ago, I started on the forum with Flickr. As I wanted to upload pictures for the forum, once Flickr did not let me in, and finally the upload site did not work at all. For the last 4 days from now. So I switched to Imgur. No trouble at all. Consider my base is Austria.

From my experience with the World Wide Web over all the decades it exists, stay calm. My experience was that, I had to upload permanent huge drawings for design and big programs I wrote to all areas of the world. Sometimes something is down; nobody may ask or tell you. Get a second tool and have two or three tools in your pocket. So do I.

At both services Flickr and Imgur I have a mirror copy of all my pictures I show you on the web. Redundancy as in flight operation. When one system is down switch to the other. Do not grasp why. Just do it. Do not waste any time.

Happy modelling

I got home from work and logged onto BM. Having spent hours and hours and hours trying to fix my Imgur connection and failing, I haven't done much in the way of model-making, so I don't actually have any photos worth sharing on BM anyway.  Still, plenty of other members' work to have a gander and a comment at,

However, before getting into that, I had a look at my laptop settings and clicked on various tabs, all of which I'd looked at before, some of which I'd reset, changed, disabled or enabled, all to no avail. But I did add the Imgur address to the 'Trusted Sites' box in the Internet Options, Security settings. I ALSO clicked on the box titled 'Enable Protected Mode.'

Now, I'm sure I've done each of these things before, but maybe I didn't do them together.

Whatever, I searched for Imgur, clicked on it and got put straight to their homepage, AND logged on and am now able to access my account again.

So, problem solved!

What the issue was previously, I do not know, because I am certain I never changed any of my laptop's settings.

Should any of you computer wizards read my 'cure', maybe you can surmise what was causing the original problem and let me know, because I'd really like to know.

Thanks to all who tried to help, especially those who did mention internet  zones and 'trusted sites'. I would have thought though that if my settings had somehow 'blocked' me from JUST Imgur, then Imgur would have appeared somewhere in my settings.

Anyhoooooooo,

It's back  back to making  rotten and broken window frames for me!

Glad to hear you've found the solution, even if it leaves us none the wiser. The curse of computing, I'm afraid, is that we often forget that these damn things are nothing more than very quick calculators who understand only Yes and No but can make these decisions VERY fast indeed (upwards of Three Thousand Million times a second in the case of my machine). One randomly misunderstood decision anywhere and anytime can produce seriously unpredictable results. 🙂 Isn't it a shame that, in most respects, these things are really so damn useful? 😉

I shall get a small pile of virtual stones ready to throw at your new windows, just to enhance the realism of the look. hee hee hee... 😄

Awww shhhesh! I'm going to miss tuning into your saga Badder. It was like Mrs Dale's Diary....."I've been worried about Jim lately".

Anyone under the age of 70 is going to wonder wtf I'm babbling on about. :giggle:
