Italeri 1/72 Spitfire IX LF LR

Recommended Posts

Not a real designation - see here for details https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235043251-what-is-a-spitfire-ix-lf-lr/

The first of 3 that have been extracted from "The Shelf of Doom", having been there 10 years or more despite one previous rescue attempt. The other two (Hurricane and Whirwind) got their pre-decal coat of Klear this morning.

The Italeri kit - so has some issues - but the most easily obtainable back when I started it.

Finished as an aircraft of 165 Squadron based at Predannack in Cornwall in May 1944, taken from the profile in Osprey Spitfire Aces of NW Europe 1944-5. The 90-gallon tank can just be seen, taken from a set of Spitfire bits that included HF wings and other bits and bobs but who's name is lost in the mists of time. Exhausts came from thge Pavla set for the Airfix IX, everything else is from the kit.

Decals are a mix of Modeldecal, Xtradecal and Ventura for the stencilled serials. They all stuck eventually !!!

Final note - I must improve my camera technique, just setting macro mode obviously doesn't cut it but hopefully you get a reasonable impression................

Agreed, very good looking Spitfire, fresh out of the factory.

I think the squadron was re-equipped in March so not very old.

Nice job, I have only built the Italeri kit with the Seafire XV conversion kit from Brigade. I messed around with the kit fuselage and thought that the engine/fuselage split was potential trouble.

It's a long time ago but I think I would have joined one cowling half to one fuselage half  - the ones with alignment holes so I could lay them flat - then joined the other two parts individually to that complete half when it had set.
