richellis
Popped in to see U-534 in Birkenhead while in the area, didn't take too many shots but here is what I did take, maybe of interest to some. spitfire
Took the grandkids to see it a few years back, well worth a visit, we combined it with a ferry trip and a visit to Liverpool's museums. Cheers Dennis
richellis
Is there a kit out there of this sub?
Alan P
3 hours ago, richellis said: Is there a kit out there of this sub? I don't think there's one for this exact sub, but there are several options using Type IXC and IXC/40 kits...it all comes down to scale! Bronco, Mirage Hobby and HobbyBoss all do several varieties in 1/350. Mirage also does one in 1/400. So far as I am aware there is no kit in the intermediate 1/144 scale. Revell does the closest match - a IXC/40 in 1/72. However, it has the bow cutaway which isn't the same as U-534. Revell's 1/72 U-505 Late kit is probably the closest match for the hull shape, although it needs the Schnorkel arrangement from the IXC/40 kit and it may need an extended Wintergarten (gun deck). The IXC/40 kit does at least have the correct 3.7cm twin mount which is essential. Unlike most U-boats, U-534 was remarkably successful against aircraft thanks to this formidable weapon. Hope that was some help, although it's not a straightforward proposition! Alan
richellis
Thanks, not a simple answer! I guess there is lots of small variations in types
